"happy birthday!"
i gasped, completely stunned as my eyes scanned the spacious, glittery room. i knew about the party, but i wasn't expecting jeonghan to go all out.
the room was decorated in a theme that could only be described as 'controlled chaos'. but it was my kind of chaos.
all my friends were there, seungkwan, looking proud, like he had personally strung every light in the room. hara sprinted toward me, wrapping me in a tight hug, with soojin right behind, almost knocking me over with her enthusiasm.
from across the room, i caught seungcheol winking at jeonghan, mouthing something i didn't catch. meanwhile, hoshi and seokmin loudly sang a jazz version of "happy birthday" that caught every one off guard.
"it's my turn!" seungkwan declared dramatically, swooping in for a hug the second hara and soojin released me. he leaned in close to my ear conspiratorially, "you're going to love it today."
"love what?"
he winked, ignoring my question as if he had just dropped some earth-shattering spoiler. before i could push further, a dry voice cut through the noise behind me.
"what a sparkling batch of friends" sunwoo deadpanned, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
seungkwan immediately shot him a side-eye. "and who are you supposed to be?"
before another passive aggressive battle could begin, i grabbed sunwoo by the arm and dragged him forward. "this is my brother, sunwoo"
seungcheol raised an eyebrow. "i didn't know you had a brother" he said, clearly ignoring the subtle don't look i was sending his way.
sunwoo, meanwhile, shoved his hands in his pockets and rolled his eyes, his stance screaming too cool for this. i gave him a silent please behave look, and jeonghan offered absolutely no help.
"they were out of touch for a while" hara chimed in, trying to diffuse the moment. she gave sunwoo a warm smile. "but let's stop wasting time. let's enjoy the party!"
to my absolute shock, sunwoo didn't resist when seungkwan, seokmin, and hoshi swarmed him. in fact, his ears turned slightly pink when seungcheol shook his hand, and i nearly choked on my own disbelief when i heard him mumble, "i really like your songs."
jeonghan's jaw nearly hit the floor. he leaned in close to me, dropping his voice to a whisper. "he likes our songs and he hates me?"
"maybe he likes the hip-hop unit?" i suggested innocently.
jeonghan glared at me from the corner of his eye. "you're not helping."
jeonghan let out a relieved sigh as soon as sunwoo was out of sight. his hand reaching out to rest on my waist.
"finally, i get to have you all to myself."
i raised an eyebrow playfully. "are you sure? we've still got quite a lot of eyes on us."
"not for long"
"what's that supposed to mean?"
"nothing" he replied. "i've some plans."
"are you two going to stay in that corner?" seungcheol asked, walking up to us with a drink in his hand.
"by the way you look great today" he said to me, glancing teasingly at jeonghan.
"of course" i replied, chuckling at seungcheol sulk when i didn't return his compliment. "can i ask something though?"
i bit my lip as the two looked at me curiously. i don't know if it's intentional or not, but it's bothering me.
