Lucky Quarter

I was walking down the street,
When I saw Mr. Morter.
He took out my hand,
And gave me a lucky quarter.

He said, go to the store,
And buy a big fat tortoise,
For the lucky quarter will make sure,
The staff will never notice!

So I did as he said,
And bought a Cat from Rome.
I walked out the door,
And the staff picked up the phone.

The magic really worked,
So I bought a bed sheet cover.
I looked up to the counter,
Staff were nudging one another.

The staff had never chased me,
Thanks to the lucky coin.
I had so many days to shop,
And many friends to join!

One more shop I said,
And I got an iron pail.
Now I am behind bars,
Why am I in jail.

Mr. Morter came to see me,
And grinned a wicked smile.
I am disappointed he said,
See you in a while!
