“Oh. My. God.” I shrieked to El as we pulled up in the driveway of my new home.

Well, technically it’s not MY home. I’m just renting it for awhile.

I’m from the States and I’m here in London to further my studies at London University. My cousin, who happened to live here, offered to find me a place to stay for the next 2 years. And by the looks of it, she certainly did a good job.

“How the hell did you hook me up with this place?” I asked, getting out of the car.

“I have my sources.” She winked, wrapping her arm around mine as we made our way to the main door.

Once she opened the door, I gasped. The house looked even better from the inside. It was mostly modern but there was a classic touch to it. The whole place looked like it was from a cut out of a magazine. Everything was placed perfectly, even that pen on the table looked like it was meant to be there.

“Wow!” Was all I could say as she took me on a tour around.

“El, can I really afford the rent for this? I mean, this house looks like it’s triple the amount of my budget. I know I will be housing with someone else, but still…”

“Trust me, Jules. It’s within your budget. I did some negotiation with the tenant of this house. I did tell you that he is your housemate too, right?”

“No, you didn’t, El. Thanks for the info though.” I replied sarcastically, rolling my eyes at her. She giggled and pulled me up the stairs.

We passed thru a few doors, assuming those were just guest rooms, until we stopped to the furthest one on the left.

“So this is your room!” She shrilled, turning the lights on. I looked around the room, and back at Eleanor, my jaw still wide open.

It was amazing. The room was painted grey, the headboard of the bed matches the walls and the interior décor was of a similar color, with hints of pink around. It was sophisticated. It was simple. And it was me. I gave El a hug, thanking her while at it.

“Anything for my cousin.” She giggled.

After the house tour, Eleanor and I got my suitcases and started unpacking. It still hadn’t sunk it yet that I will be staying in this mansion for TWO years. Honestly though, how can someone afford a place like this? And how did Eleanor know him?

“El, the person who owns this place, what does he work as?” I asked curiously. She kept quiet for a second or two, thinking carefully about what she was gonna reply.

“A normal job, like everyone else.”

And she left it at that. I didn’t want to press on further. There must be a reason why she isn’t telling me the real truth.
