Ring! Ring! Ring!

The loud sound of the school bell wakes me up wakes me up with a jolt, causing my desk to shake and the binders on top to topple over. I feel the eyes of the entire class turn towards me and hear a few snickers at my sudden outburst- though my history teacher was not amongst those who found it to be amusing. He narrows his eyes at me and a firm scowl settled on his miserable face.

I get up slowly, wiping the sleep away from eyes as the rest of my classmates make their way out of the room. Swiftly grabbing my belongings, I try my best to blend in with the run of students making their way through the door, tiptoeing around the ticking time bomb otherwise known as Mr. Jacobs, my Economics teacher. Just when I thought that I was in the clear, the unmistakeable sound of my name firmly being called causes me to stop dead in my tracks.

"Destiny, may I have a word with you please?" Mr. Jacobs asks, although it comes of as more of a command than a question.

"Do I have a choice?" I ask him honestly, as I shift the weight of my book bag from one shoulder to the other.

"No." Figures.

I look past the angry face of my Economics teacher only to see my best friend Cheyenne standing in the doorway laughing at me. It became a habit for the two of us to meet up at the end of the day and walk to our lockers together since she had Geography right next door.

Rolling my eyes, I held up my finger, signaling I'll be out in a minute. I focus my attention back on Mr. Jacobs who seems to be growing more and more inpatient by the second.

"Is there a problem?" I ask, pretending as if I didn't already know what he intended to talk to me about.

"This is the fourth time that you've fallen asleep during my class-"

"Sir-"

"In this week alone" he finishes, folding his arms over his chest as he stares at me accusingly. Considering that today was only Wednesday, I could understand why he's become a little frustrated with my behavior.

"Okay, I know that I've been a little distracted lately," I admit, thinking about all the other classes that I've been falling asleep in, "I just have a lot on my mind and I haven't been getting much sleep at night, since my baby sister was born."

It wasn't a complete lie. Grace does cry a lot at night, her wails penetrating through the thin walls, but that's nothing a pair of ear plugs won't solve. The real source of my troubles is much bigger and goes by the name of Jordan.

I can't say that it's a surprise that I've developed feelings for one of the most popular guys at school, his award winning smile, irresistible good looks and charm winning over many other girls besides me.

We've been close friends for many years now, the two of us spending a lot of time together both in and outside of school. My feelings for him began not long after he and I met in middle school and they've continued to grow stronger ever since. It wasn't until high school when Jordan grew 2 feet taller and gained a lot of muscle that I had to start sharing his attention with all of the other girl's in our school. Besides me, Jordan hung out with a group of 3 of his closest friends: Kevin, David and Jayden, each of them equally as tall and good looking. They were each well over six feet tall and star basketball players at our school except for Kevin who was a linebacker on the football team. Not only did they earn the attention of every female at our school, but there were scouts from Division 1 universities all over the country constantly attending their home games and offering them generous scholarships.
