I woke up once again to the beeping of the alarm that I constantly wore on my hip that reminded me to take my meds. It made a kid high pitched noise that awoke me from even the deepest sleep. I rolled out of bed and trigger downstairs, wiping the sleep out of my eyes. I went to the cabinet, pulled out the basket, poured out the pills, swallowed them, drank a glass of water and returned back to my room just like always. I went to my closet and started putting on my outfit for the day. I wore a pair of black skinny jeans and a red and black checkered flannel shirt. I tugged my hair into a messy bun and brushed on my daily makeup. Just as I was doing the wing of my eyeliner my mom entered my room her phone pressed to her cheek.
"Yes I know Mr. Town I will be at the meeting today."
"We need to get this settled today."
"Yes of course."
"Goodbye."
She pressed end on her call and flopped down on my bed watching as I finished one of the wings.
"Who was that?"
"Mr. Town from the bank."
"Oh." I said turning my attention back to my appearance.
"Audrey do you think that maybe you could hold down the shop today while I went to this meeting today?"
"What do you mean like by myself?" I asked shocked turning to her.
"Yes by your self."
"But what if I screw something up."
"Audrey Elizabeth you are 18 years old and have been helping me at the record shop for a while now. You know the ins and outs of everything just about as well as I do, you have no reason to be nervous."
"I've just never run it by myself before."
"Well you know what they say, there is a first time for everything."
A small chuckled escaped my lips as I nodded my head "okay I'll do it."
"Oh thank you so much Audrey you have no idea how big of a help this is to me."
"Don't worry about it mom, I'm sure I won't burn the building down while your gone."
"Have fun then I gotta get going."
"Okay bye mom." I said as she gave me a kiss on the cheek.
"Goodbye sweetheart."
=========================
About an hour later I pulled into the parking lot of the record shop and unlocked the front door. As always I put on a record and turned on the open sign before taking a seat behind the check out counter, grabbing my guitar and starting to strum a song. Every half an hour or so a customer would come in and look around the collection. Some would purchase things while others would just search for a while and then leave.
This was all quite routine until the door opened and in came a boy. I didn't see his face or any of his details, the only thing I could see was that he was tall and wore black skinny jeans and a ripped cut off. His hair was covered by a black beanie and on his feet he wore black ankle boots. I continued to play my guitar, strumming my own rendition of "Lego House" by Ed Sheeran. I quietly sang along filling the store with my own music.
I'm gonna pick up the pieces and build a Lego house
If things go wrong we can knock it down
My three words have two meanings
But theirs one thing on my mind
It's all for you
Oh Oh
Suddenly a second much lower voice joined in with my singing, adding a harmony to my melody.
And it's dark and it's cold in December
But I've got you to keep me warm
If you're broken I will mend you
An keep you sheltered from the storm that's raging on
I'm out of touch I'm out of love
I'll pick you up when you're getting down
And out of all these things I've done
I think I love you better now
I'm out of sight I'm out of mind
I'll do it all for you in time
And out of all these things I've done
I think I love you better now
I stopped my playing and looked up to find the source of the mystery voice. I was slightly confused as the only other person who was currently in the shop was that tall giraffe boy.
I swallowed the lump in my throat and gathered enough courage to go find the mystery man.
I pushed myself up from my seat and walked around the counter to go search for the unknown singing partner. I stopped at the top of an aisle when I saw him, or more the back of him. I couldn't see much but I could see now that he had blondish hair. But was still unaware who this boy was.
"What that you singing?" Spoke the boy without turning around.
"I could ask you the same thing." I chuckled.
He also laughed lightly. "Yeah that was me."
"Good." I laughed leaning against a near display of green day CDs. "I thought I had begun hearing things."
He nodded, his back still to me.
"Do you need help with anything?" I questioned politely
"No thanks, I'm just looking for now." He said
"Okay I'll be behind the desk if you need anything." I called returning to my spot behind the desk
I watched from a far as the boy made his way up and down the aisles, picking up a CD or record every so often and scanning over it. I had still yet to see his face and the anticipation was killing me. There had been something about him. Something about his voice and clothing style that reminded me of someone that I couldn't quite put my finger on. I shrugged it off as I put in my headphones and picked up my book which was of course "my final wish."
I was lost in my own little world until the sound of someone clearing their throat snapped me out of it. I looked up and my breathe was instantly taken away. Standing there was the last person I ever expected to see. He was standing directly in front of me, all 6 foot 2 inches of him with his tight black jeans and bright blue eyes. Luke Hemmings.
