A month later

Katie's POV

"I'm sorry, Alice... You don't deserve this..." I say, looking at her shocked face. We sit in front of the crackling fire, the only thing bringing warmth to this cold environment. The mood was sombre. It has been 5 months now since we started dating her. Jamie and I sat on the cold black leather couch. Alice sat in the armchair opposite us, tears rolling down her cheeks, choking on her own words. I felt terrible. I had never had to do this before. My heart ached for the woman sitting in front of me, but at the same time, it felt freeing. "We'll give you until the end of the week to find somewhere to go...But we want you out."

Hearing Jamie say that was like a stab in the gut, but it'll all be worth it. I couldn't move or act. I just stare as she bawls her eyes out in front of me before standing and storming out of the house. I'm not even sure I'm breathing anymore until I feel a sudden warmth surrounding me. Jamie. Her arms wrapping around my waist and pulling me in close. I relax into her chest as a few stray tears fall. "It's ok, baby... It's over." Jamie whispers into my ear; it was clear she was struggling as well, but sitting here together, the warmth of our embrace was like a shield to the harsh emotions leftover in the room. I finally felt like a burden, a weight, had been lifted off my shoulders as Jamie and I peacefully drift off in each other's arms.

Bridget's POV

I stir awake to the sound of our car leaving the driveway. Another day alone I suppose. I head to our walk-in wardrobe and put on a navy blue zip-up and a matching pair of sweatpants then I head for the kitchen and I see the mess of dishes and other chores for me to tackle today. As I run the hot water in the sink something catches my attention, a small piece of paper sitting beside a small box. I picked up the paper and I suddenly remembered why I love him. It reads:

Hey beautiful, sorry I had to rush off but I'll make it up to you. Be ready at 6.

A date? Is he taking me out again? I can barely believe it. I spend the day cleaning the house until about 5 when I head upstairs to pick something out. I picked a cute black vest top and a pair of flair jeans and I pray he'll like it. 6 rolls around and he walks in the door a mess covered in what looks like oil and dust. He rushes upstairs to have a shower and then puts on a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. Not quite as formal but that's ok. We get in the car and drive to an Italian restaurant...The same chain brand Katie and Jamie took me too...The waiter comes over for our order and he orders a fancy pasta dish and I begin to speak but he cuts me off and orders me a salad. We eat and have some small conversations but he really isn't that talkative. It's as if taking me out is a chore. The final shreds of daylight fade as the moon begins to rise and he decides that it's time to head home. It's a quiet ride. We arrive home and both get changed heading to bed for another restless sleep. Well at least I was. He gets changed and then heads to the lounge to watch TV. It's ok though, he took me out for dinner...it shows he cares...

Jamie's POV

The next morning I wake up to the smell of waffles. Katie's cooking? Really? Unfortunately neither me or Kate are great cooks and we never hide that fact so this is quite unusual. Groggily I stand up from the couch and tread slowly into the kitchen. I take a seat at the breakfast bar and admire my wife as she does such a domestic task for us. I wait about an hour until breakfast is ready and Kate prepares a plate for me. We sit together but the silence was deafening. All that can be heard was the slight sizzle of the cooling stove and the breeze fluttering outside and I finally decide to break the silence.

"Kate...I think it's time to make a big change..."
"Oh? Are you cutting your hair or something? No need to ask me babe." I stare briefly in confusion before regaining composure.

"N-No uhm...I mean a you and me decision...I think it's time for a change of scenery... A fresh start." Katie stares at me like I had just suggested the most inhumane thing known to man. After a few silent moments which are making me regret ever bringing it up, her expression shifts, not in anger, or annoyance, in acceptance.
