Chapter 16

Stephan canceled his date with Sabrina; he wanted to spend some time with Deni.  He knew Deni was Donovan’s mate, but he had been worried about her since he left her, he wasn't sure how Donovan had reacted to her having his scent on him. He also needed to make sure she really didn't mind him moving on. Although she told him it was fine he could sense the sadness in her voice.

Stephan stepped out into his back yard and quickly shifted and ran all the way to Deni’s house. It had been a while since he had just ran in wolf form, he always felt most relaxed in this form and it helped him clear his mind.  As he ran we thought about everything that had been going on over the last few days and he tried to convince himself that now was the time for him and Deni to completely end their relationship and start working on being friends so they could be with their mates.  As he reached the house he shifted back and put his clothes on that he had carried all the way with him. After a while of sitting and debating on what to say to her he climbed up to her window and knocked. 

Deni laid in her bed happily thinking about Donovan.  She had just ended a conversation with him and now she was anticipating his arrival.  The last 24 hours they spent apart was hard on the both of them and Deni had finally decided that she was ready to leave her father’s house and move in with her mate.  Deni laid on her bed thinking about what life with Donovan’s pack would be like.  A knock on the window startled her.  She jumped peered through the window just to see Stephan staring back at her.

"Stephan what are you doing here!" she whispered as she slowly opened the window.

Stephan tried to come in but she put her hand on his chest and stopped him. "What's wrong Deni?" he questioned while moving her hands off of him.

"Wait here" she said and she went and locked her bedroom door.  "Donovan is on his way over and he will kill you if he sees you. You have to go he should be here any minute."

Stephan's mood quickly shifted and Deni could see he was upset. "Stephan I am not going to let the two of you argue tonight.  Please leave!" She said still trying to push him back out the window. 

Stephan shook his head ‘no’ and pushed past Deni into the bedroom.  "Look Deni I just came by to check on you. I left you yesterday while Donovan was still upset, and I just needed to know you were ok." 

Stephan looked Deni over and then stepped closer to her taking in her scent. "You've mated with him." Stephan frowned and stepped away from her.

Deni reached out to him to take her hand.  She led him over to her bed and they both sat. Deni sighed deeply and then said "Stephan I have decided that I am going to be leaving here to go stay with Donovan."  She then sat patiently waiting for a response or reaction from him. 

Stephan pulled his hands away from her. He couldn't believe what she was saying. Not only had she chosen Donovan over him. But now she was going to be leaving with him and possibly never returning. "For good Deni? Will you ever come back?" he sadly questioned her. Deni looked at his saddened eyes she then cupped her hand under his chin before she could respond to his question Stephan leaned in toward her and started kissing her.  Although Deni knew she should have stopped him she didn’t she had a weak spot in her heart for him and she only wanted to see him happy.

Donovan pulled in the driveway.  He made the two hour trip in a little over 1 hour.  He checked his watch and laughed at himself.  Deni had an amazing power over him. Here was now in the front yard and his wolf and heart were still reacting like they were miles away.  He knew his body wasn't going to calm down until she was in his arms.  He started walking to the front door but then remembered that Alpha Kerrington may still be upset with him. He decided to go around back and climb up to Deni's window.
