— Alessio

As soon as the security guards recognized us and with Cassio's permission opened the gate, my mother and I crossed the stone road that led to the Moretti mansion. Giulia, accompanied by her husband, was waiting for us at the entrance with a frighteningly huge and radiant smile, the same one that my mother now shared.

Mom always talked about how eclectic and original her friend Giulia was, I had seen her a few times when my brother and I were children. But I didn't remember how eclectic it really was. Giulia Moretti was dressed in a dress with a dungaree designed by several sunflowers, and black tights with yellow polka dots, and to top it off there was a pair of sunflower earrings decorating her ears.

I parked the car in front of the two static figures at the door. Mom came down first and greeted her cousin in a big, longing hug. Already Cassio He had his hand in his pocket where his gun was, his eyes wary of my movements as I got out of the car.

My eye sockets rotated at his attempt at intimidation.

I adjusted my knives in my waist holster, just to send him a warning that I was attentive enough, I already regretted my decision.

"Welcome, Alessio. A pleasure to welcome you here at home" Giullia said awkwardly, and I extended my hand to her to welcome her. Mr. Moretti always pays attention to our movements.

"The pleasure is all mine," I gave a brief smile without taking my eyes off her husband who was looking at me.

Giullia led us into the house, Cassio's men offered to take the bags, but I interrupted taking care of my own luggage.

Cassio's house wasn't as big as the Falcone Mansion, but it was still well-structured.

Giullia guided us to the living room where there was a table with snacks and appetizers. On a cream brown couch, a blond man sat with a furry little dog being petted in his arms.

As soon as he raised his head and saw us, his senses were heightened, he gave a small jump and walked, wrapping his arms around Giullia in a protective way and looking at her with curious eyes.

"Daniele, this is my cousin Kiara and her son, Alessio Falcone" She said with a brief smile, the man shook his head in a small wave as if he had remembered our visit.

" It's a pleasure to meet you, welcome" he greeted politely.

"The same," I replied with a smile that may have come out a little disfigured, I have to practice my good expressions more.

We sat at the table together and for a small moment an uncomfortable silence settled over the table, but Giullia and my mother tried to break the big iceberg between us, with questions and laughter.

When later after dinner, I went up to the room where my mother and I were staying, Giullia tried to give us separate rooms, but I didn't allow her to leave my mother's side, I would have been less alarmed if she had been with me, since the last time she was here with the rest of our family, they were cowardly ambushed.

As soon as I finished my shower, I slipped down the hallway looking for a balcony or window to light a cigarette. In the middle of the doors, there was a half-open one from which a light emitted. I gave it a little knock before carefully entering.
