A Misheard sound

Today was a horrible day for Emmet. When he got home he went straight to his room. Emmet laid on his bed and did his homework. Emmet didn't feel like dinner tonight so he just stayed in his room. Everyone left him alone knowing what he's going through, but in reality they have no clue what he thinks or feels. He looked in his pill vile and saw there were no pills, he swore he had one left. I guess it didn't matter if he skipped one night, right?
He decided he would go to bed without his pill. As he heard everyone say there goodnights He went to bed. As he suddenly awoke he realized it was 2:34 in the morning. He heard footsteps downstairs and went to check it out. As he moved swiftly down the stairs, stops to hear someone chuckle darkly, thinking it was his father he went to see what he was doing , just then Emmet came face-to-face with something he didn't understand. There in the hallway crouched something human like with a smile looking at him with cold,dead, black eyes. Emmet froze in fear should he run to his mother, should he hide, he didn't know.While the creature moved closer to Emmet, he started to back away and panic though thanks to his fathers bad placing, there was a box of wires behind him , that attached it's self to his left ankle. Emmet's eyes widened as the creature stopped right in front of him, it leans over and just stares at Emmet. What was it going to do.
