I don't own Soul Eater or any of its characters. Only my OC's. And Mifune's hair, of course ;)
Mifune: Dude, no. Just... no.

Caleb POV

"You're in an unusually good mood." I nudge [Name]'s hip while we walk through a grocery store, on a mission to restock our kitchen. Ever since Kid's party she's been acting... wierd. [Name] looks at me, a glowing smile on her face.
"Really? I guess today's a good day," she mumbles. She scans the refrigerated aisle and dumps two gallons of whole milk in the cart, which is half filled with eggs, bread, and cereal, among a lot of other things. Mostly chocolate. I wasn't sure what Liz preferred, so I decided to get one box of each kind. [Name] seemed convinced I was trying to give my new girlfriend Type 2 Diabetes.
We turn into the fresh fruit corner, where [Name] begins a mental debate on whether to replenish our apple stock or get a few boxes of strawberries. She picks strawberries and a bunch of bananas, while I sneak a bottle of orange cream soda into the bottom corner. I watch my weapon partner as she strolls cheerfully toward the check-out aisle, shaking my head.
"I'm serious, [Name]. You're never this happy. Are you... are you doing drugs?" She looks at me and laughs, even though I'm dead serious.
"What? You got a problem with people smiling?" I roll my eyes and start lining things up on the counter.
"Not really. I just wanna know why you're being so nice. I mean, for Death's sake, [Name]. I haven't heard a single sarcastic remark out of you in the past twenty-four hours." [Name] smiles again and pokes my cheek.
"You know, it seems to me like you actually want me to be a jerk," she says. I frown and shake my head.
"I just don't get you sometimes, [Name]." My weapon ignores me and starts humming her mother's lullaby, which has been stuck in her head for a while. I keep piling things up on the counter.
The woman at the register scans our groceries and rings up the amount with a creepy dead-eyed stare. I exchange my money for the groceries and our receipt, hauling the six bags into our cart.
Outside, Soul and Maka wait for us with four skateboards; courtesy of [Name]'s lingering 'fanboys'.
Yeah, unfortunately the stunt she pulled on those two-star meisters a while back wasn't enough to scare all the other idiots off. Someone got the idea from somewhere that she was into skating, so when we got home from Kid's party last night, both of us were surprised to find six skateboards, a longboard, and three pennyboards on our doorstep, all giftwrapped and addressed to [Name] [Surname] from her 'secret admirers'. [Name] didn't feel like throwing them all away, so she's giving one to each of us.
"Hey guys," I greet. "Thanks for waiting." Maka smiles.
"No problem. And thanks for the skateboards, [Name]." My partner nods, her face still glowing. Which is wierd. If I know [Name], she doesn't smile like that very often. I'm seriously beginning to wonder what happened at that party.
"Okay, you guys ready to go?" Maka laughs nervously.
"Um, to be honest I'm not a great skater, [Name]." She holds up her board, with a pile of black and red books on the bottom, and grimaces. [Name] giggles.
"Oh, that's alright! I bought you a book so you can learn how to ride. Here." [Name] digs into her grocery bag and produces a small booklet, tossing it to Maka. The blonde bookworm catches it and skims through quickly, snapping the pages shut after she finishes. I check my watch.
"Uh... Maka? How are you already done? That was, like, five seconds." Maka smirks at me and hops on the skateboard, a grocery bag on her arm.
"Once I know how to do it, everything else is easy." She rides down the sidewalk and back, coming to a flawless stop next to Soul. I blink, surprised that Maka can skate like a pro just by reading a beginners' manual. I start to imagine how different playing basketball would be if Maka had a book for that, too. An image of the green-eyed meister dunking on Michael Jordan runs through my head, and I shiver. [Name] grins at her.
"See, I knew that would help. C'mon, let's get these bags home," she says. [Name] grabs the nose of her board in one hand and drags the back end on the ground, letting it roll a bit before she gets on. We follow her lead, and Soul pushes faster so that he's right next to her. She smirks at him.
"Race ya," she challenges. He returns the smirk and starts to move faster, but somehow [Name] ends up far ahead. It takes a moment for me to realize that she's using her soul wavelength to increase her speed, kinda like Black*Star. Of course. She uses her abilities for the dumbest things sometimes.
When we reach our house, I take a moment to examine the Boyd residence next door. The windows look dark and depressing, and the entire house just looks abandoned. I really need to talk to Stein about finding Medusa soon. I don't think the Boyds will last much longer without their kid. [Name] catches me staring at the house and nudges me with her elbow, her smile replaced with a concerned frown.
"We'll talk to Stein about it later, 'kay?" I nod, and haul our groceries inside.
