Chapter 4: Girl meets Heartbreak

"Mom, why does it hurt so much," Maya asked. "Well honey, I don't really know, are you sure your not in love with him," Katy replied. "I don't know anymore, I mean when he said he liked Riley I was shocked, when we were in middle school they had one class together and they never talked, how can he catch feelings for her, me and him were in all the same classes, and he didn't bother to get to know me either, maybe I'm just nothing," Maya said as she flopped on her bed. Katy layed right next to her and ran her hand through her hair. "Now, baby doll , I'm not really good at this mother thing but I think you should tell Riley and Lucas how you feel." Maya looked at her mother in her eyes. "What if Lucas turns me down and Riley hates me and never talk to me again," She asked worried. "There's only one way to find out, go talk to Your best friend first." maya hopped out of bed and hugged her mother. "Thanks mom," Maya said. "Your welcome darling, now go." Maya ran downstairs out the front door and began walking down the street. "Maya!," Lucas screamed behind her. "Lucas?," she asked. "Hey, where ya going?," he asked as he caught up to her. "I'm heading over to Riley house, I need to talk to her about something that seems to be bothering me." "Well, can I talk to you for a minute." "Make it quick Ranger Rick," she replied. "Maya I know what I said about wanting Riley hurt your feelings but I want you to know that I really want you, I love how you dress, how you speak your mind, and how your not afraid to say how you feel, I just said that about Riley because I knew she liked me, but I like you Maya I have ever since Middle school." Lucas grabbed Maya by the waste and grabbed her face and pulled her in closer and kissed her. She was still confused about what he said and she realized she was enjoying the kiss to much. She pushed him away and ran towards Riley house. Maya couldn't believe what Lucas just did. She stopped at Riley's Apartment and touched her lips. She still felt his lips on hers. She grabbed the ladder on the wall and climbed up the fire escape to get to Riley's window. Once Maya got to the window she knocked on the window and Riley ran to open it. "Ah my lovely trust worthy best friend, Maya," Riley said with a big smile. "Riley I have to tell you something," Maya started before Riley cut her off. "I can not believe that's Lucas likes me back." Riley saw her phone light up and wondered if it was Lucas. She picked up her phone and saw it was text from him. "Who's that," Maya asked. Maya saw Riley's face expression turn from excited to depressed. "Darling Riley, what's wrong?," maya asked as she came up closer to her. "Lucas just told me he was just kidding he doesn't like me he likes someone else," Riley said as she hugged Maya really tight and started crying. "How can he play me like that Maya, how?" "I'm sorry Riley, please stop crying, maybe he wasn't right for you," maya said holding her best friend. Maya sat Riley down. "Listen some things aren't just meant to be, some boys play with girls emotions because they don't really know what they want, they don't understand how sensitive we are , so they hurt us when they don't even know it, sometimes you just have to let things go." Riley stared at Maya and looked in her eyes and knew everything was OK. "I love you Maya," Riley said. "I love you too, now what do you say we go and explore this crazy town." "Okay!," Riley said excited. They went out the window and climbed down the fire escape and started walking down the street. "Where are we going Maya," Riley said as she started skipping next to maya. "I think I know where we can go to make you feel better," Maya replied. Riley just smiled and continued to skip down the street.
