It's been a few weeks now and things are getting to be a little easier. Your sleep patterns are back to normal and you haven't thought about what's her name in two days now. Work is helping with that.
Your routine is changing a bit but not so much that it's drastic. The days are slowing down now and it appears you're back to your old self again.Wednesday, aka Hump day. The morning went by pretty fast and you're as busy as always.
Your stomach is grumbling from hunger and you don't have plans for lunch today. This is a first in a long time. You buzz your secretary " Carla, are you busy?"
"I am but I'll be right there""Thank You Carla"
There's a knock on the door immediately. "Come in Carla"
"What can I do for you Sir?"
"Do I have any meetings planned this afternoon?" You ask, knowing that you don't.
"Not one Sir, no meetings, no lunches, what will you do?" She says jokingly with a little chuckle.
You let out a bit of a short laugh yourself.
"Hmm, that's a good question. Do you know if the hotdog vendor is down stairs today?""I'm not sure but I can find out" she replies.
You love hotdogs and this guy makes the best in the state. There's been people from all over, driving out of their way just to have a hotdog. And he has the best pricing too. How he makes any good money at it is a mystery.
Carla returns, "Yes Sir, there's a short line but he's good at what he does, shouldn't be too long."
She really does go out of her way to make sure you are taken care of. Hiring Carla was the best decision you made the whole time you've been with the company. You think for a moment, a funny kind of look on your face.
"Have you eaten lunch yet Carla?""Nope, I had a snack earlier. And I don't usually take a lunch until you return from yours." She replies real innocently.
"Do you like hotdogs?" You ask in a jokingly manor.
"Sir I can't. You're kind but no, it wouldn't be appropriate."
"Carla, it's a hotdog, I'm not asking you to dinner." You say a little more serious now.
"Right, well yes, I do like hotdogs and I would like to join you. As coworkers of course." She says.
"Okay elevator or stairs?" You ask playfully.
"Stairs" says Carla
To which you reply " Wanna race?"
And before saying anything else she darts off down the stairs. Yep you are having fun with someone can feel comfortable with."I win" says Carla pushing the front door open and standing in the line.
"Oh indeed you did, and if it's not too fresh, you looked good doing it." She responds with a playful shoulder swat.
"Two of your finest" you request finally reaching the front of the line.
"Mmm you're going to love this if you've never had the best hotdogs in the world"Just as he hands you both your dogs, out of nowhere without a warning you are both being pelted by the largest rain drops ever.
Darting for shelter you both head for the door. "There's a canopy there Carla" you shout, so that she can clearly hear you over the roar of the raindrops hitting the concrete.
"There goes our lunch" states Carla
"No, I saved them from a horrible dismissal" "here you go" handing her the one she requested.
"So what now?" Carla asks as she's trying to eat this rather HOT hotdog while shivering a bit from the cold of the rain.
"You're cold, your lips are a rather lovely shade of blue." You mention while taking off your coat.
"Nonsense" Carla boast and runs out into the rain. Turns and looks back at you.
"What?" You ask. Knowing sure well what she wants. But you pretend to be dumb and force her to ask.
No words she just takes your hand and you willingly walk out into the very cold rain.
"Dance with me!" She demands.
"I don't dance, got two bad feet. Neither likes the other." But you start to move to the sudden music inside your head.
Seeming like you're out there forever when the rain stops. And you both run inside, racing again. Of course she's leading the way again. You wouldn't be a gentleman if she wasn't. And the view is better from the rear.
