The ambiance of the house was indescribable. My eyes swept across the entryway and I was left in awe. Mr.Wentworth was unfazed and walked directly to the left, leaving me behind to gawk at his breathtaking home. Everything was so bright, champagne and gold accents. Everything looking straight out of a fairytale. An incredible slightly winding staircase leading up to the next story that I was dying to investigate. Mirrors and paintings rimmed with gold, and white tables holding crystal vases of flowers I didn't know the names of. A faint scent of vanilla seemed to hang lightly around me. The floor was all sparkling tiles, they looked almost icy.
I heard the door close behind me and Elliot was soon at my side removing his hat.
He sighed, then turned to me. "Welcome home Miss."
I just stared forward amazed at the polished floor I was standing on. I seemed so out of place. I didn't belong in this pristine castle. I heard feet moving towards us quickly and soon a middle aged woman came running in from a hallway I was desperate to explore.
"Oh, Elliot! You have returned." she said almost panicked. Her light brown hair was pulled back into a ponytail, but there were strands of hair popping out at random. She wiped her hands on her thighs, then straightened her collar.
He let out a small laugh.
"Mr.Wentworth is already in the den, resting I'm sure." he said with a small smile.
She let out a breath, relieved. Then turned her attention to me. "Oh dear." she said softly.
I gave her a glare, which made her remove her gaze.
"Ahh, right!" Elliot exclaimed. "This is...ummm, well I don't exactly know your name Miss." he said turning towards me.
They looked at me, expectantly, but I just stood there. Looking at them emotionless. After a minute or two Elliot cleared his throat. "Well, are you hungry? Georgia could make you up something I'm sure."
The woman smiled at me, she tried to look genuine but anyone could see her discomfort.
I shook my head, looking away from her.
"Well in that case, I'm going to go finish up the laundry. Pleased to meet you." Georgia spun around and scurried back down the hall she had appeared from.
"Would you like a glass of water?" Elliot asked, pulling my attention back to him.
I didn't reply and he took my silence for a yes. He walked quickly into the next room. I followed behind him slowly but I didn't move passed the doorway. I could see him around the corner filling up a clear glass with water from the sink. My mouth became dry just looking at it, and I tried to remember the last time I'd had something to drink. Involuntarily, my hand moved to touch my throat, as if it could help quench my thirst from the outside.
Elliot flipped the faucet off and came over to where I stood. He held the glass out for me, but I just stared at it. My body was begging for me to reach out and take it, but my hands wouldn't move.
He soon set it on the countertop, giving me a smile. I stared at him for a moment, then slowly picked up the glass. I turned away from him and walked back into the foyer. I sat down on the step and pulled my knees to my chest, holding the glass in my lap.
He didn't follow me out, I could see him sitting down at the island in the other room. I bit my lip, staring down at the water. I lifted it up to lip and as the water dropped into my mouth I couldn't set it down. The glass was empty within the next few seconds. I sucked in a few large breaths, wiping stray droplets from the edges of my mouth.
I saw a pair of shined black dress shoes in front of me and looked up to see Elliot, holding another large glass full of water. I felt my cheeks flush slightly and I reached out to take it. I tried to drink this one a bit slower.
