Mai, Kit, and Westley are three people living outside the standard gender binary. You will be following their experiences of what Queer really means. For now we'll start with Wes.

I was kicked out by my parents and had to spend two years in a homeless shelter trying to figure out why my gender, or lack of, was something so terrible. But then again with the whole extreme Christian ideology of my entire family, the way they reacted to me coming out wasn't much of a surprise. I still hear about them, my dad's a preacher and he still preaches about loving your family through everything but never mentions how he kicked out his own child.

I've attended one of his services since they made me leave and I sat in the front row and hoped he would look at me but he never did. It was like I was invisible.

I stopped going after that but I still think about them, not nostalgically but as a traumatic memory that won't leave me be. They still haunt me, I remember spending my childhood being told I had to be a certain way but I could never be what they wanted. Maybe if I had been a good Christian and pretended to be one gender, instead of none at all, pretended to love the right people I wouldn't be stuck in the place I'm in now; homeless, making shit money, malnourished and living in fear.
