This world is unfortunate, cold and cruel, the three things I've learned in my lifetime. Three horrible horrible things. My name? Raven, my age? 16. I'm a spirit bearer from birth and although they haven't figured it out yet, I'm one of the more powerful ones. My favourite forms being mostly black animals but I can and WILL posses humans if I have to. It's only been a few years since my imprisonment in this god forsaken place. Everyone here is just like the rest of us, us?
I look around to the other's huddled around me and internally sigh, outwardly all I do is blink and shuffle closer to the youngest. "It's okay, here..." I offer my arm for her to snuggle into, I'm always unnaturally warm and then cool again, weird how a persons body can work out at times. The youngster looks at me as if I might hurt her and honestly I'm not surprised, with the black eyes I posses, they only seem to be growing darker... and people say dark eyes is a sign of pain and unstableness, I don't know if either of those are true because often I don't think, just go with my instinct. Eventually the girl decides that I'm not a threat, here I'm the oldest, all the others are either 13 or 15, none are 16 apart from myself.
Let me explain where we are. We're in a government approved testing facility. I hate that word. I hate this place; cold concrete floors, blinding white lights and the tables... the tests always hurt. On instinct my left hand goes to my throat where a nasty scar is hidden by thick layers of black hair, sometimes I'm glad of that but not in the summer when it gets so unbearably hot.
My heightened senses pick up the sound of a newcomer, the others huddle closer together not even somewhat curious, they're what the rest of us like to call... 'broken'. I will never break. never.
Here comes the sounds again, the rough sound of material dragging against the ground, huffing breaths of air filling the cold room with some form of warmth but I'm one of the few who can detect this, not risking a move I watch suspiciously from the shadow's of our confinement. Clutching the youngest protectively. After a moment a body is simply dropped into our cell and the door locked, curious I watch what happens as she slowly begins to wake up.
She looks around, calling out for her mother, I feel somewhat sorry for her having lost my own the same way but I guess I dealt with it better than others. Still I continue to watch until one of the other's gets fed up and simply tells her to shut up, then as suddenly as she arrived she passes out. "Oh shit, Jake can you get me some water?" The boy quickly goes to do as I'd asked and I stand up kneeling down beside the other girl and check her pulse... up close I notice the light brown highlights in her otherwise chocolate coloured hair and I find myself staring. Thankfully she's still breathing, that's a relief, sometimes ones are thrown in here and just die from the brutal treatment.
Jake shortly returns with the water and I lightly dribble some over her lips, continuing to stare, unaware, although I always seemed to do that. Finally she woke and sat up mumbling a short 'thanks..' I simply nodded, it'd been a while since I'd seen someone new, my only reaction was to stare, which seemed to creep her out a bit, not like I blamed her, eheh. "What's your name?" I asked softly once she seemed to calm down a bit.
She replied straight away with "Evelyn. You?"
I felt the corners of my mouth curl up without permission, odd. "Raven." I stated simply softening my tone then offered Evelyn a hand. "Well Evelyn... welcome to hell." I chuckled humorlessly, probably one of the few who had enough sanity left to be sarcastic or crack jokes for that matter. I let this sink in before asking: "Do you know why your here? where you are?" I made it a task of mine to see to it that every new member knew this much, knowledge is the key and the key unlocks the gate to freedom. I was slowly gathering the cooperation and trust of the others and every new person would count.
