Do you remember a time when you didn't have to always be on guard and worry about the littlest things? Me neither.
There's not a day that goes by where I don't have to look over my shoulder every fifteen minutes and think to myself, are we going to make it? And by we I mean my little sister and I. We can honestly say, we've been through a lot together. From the time we lost most of our family,to the time we lost everyone we ever loved. Now we're all we have. I have her and she has me. It just makes me sad that she has to see all of this at such a young age.
"Katelyn when are we going to eat?" My little sister Emily ask.
"Soon okay. Soon." I replied.
"But you said that yesterday!"
She's right, I did. But not only yesterday, but the day before that as well. "I know I did Emily. Just wait a few more hours and I promise you we will find some food okay."
"Okay big sister." She said in her little kid voice. "Hey Kate?"
"Yeah, what is it?"
"When are we going back?"
I sighed, I didn't want her to ask that. At least not right now. "We can't go back Ems'." She frowned. "Listen, remember I told you that mom and dad went game over?" She nodded. "Well so did the rest of our family. Were all that's left." She started to look like she was about to cry. I grabbed her and hugged her tightly. "Hey Ems', everything is going to be fine alright, we'll see them again some day okay."
"Promise?" Emily said sniffling.
"I promise." I held her in my arms for a good five minutes. I couldn't lie to her though, some day we were going to see our family again. The only problem is, there dead. There gone and I had to end some of them and I didn't want Emily to see it so I told her to close her eyes. I sighed again. I could remember everything like it was only yesterday...
~Flashback~
"Mom dad! Their coming!" Jerry yelled.
"Everyone! Get ready! Make sure you have everything!" My dad said while grabbing his sword and gun.
I grabbed my gun and my sword as well as everyone else who either knew how to shoot a gun, or wield a sword. Only five people in my entire family knew how to wield both. I was one of those five.
I made sure my gun was fully loaded and my sword was sharp. I checked to make sure I had at least two more rounds of bullets with me. Once I checked everything and all, I hid behind a tree so that they wouldn't see me.
"Sister... What's happening?" Emily said.
"We're about to be under attack Ems'. Now I need you to go hide so they won't find you. I'll come and get you when the coast is clear okay."
Emily nodded and went to go hide. I looked at where she was hiding and chuckled, she hid in a log. Her favorite place.
"Their coming! Get ready everyone!" My mother said.
Here we go again I thought to myself. Hopefully we can get all of them before anyone gets hurt.
I moved my head a little to see where they were and my eyes went wide. I had never seen so many.. so many zombies... Dozens of them coming and there was only twenty of us. Twenty-two if you count the little kids. That's when I knew, some of us weren't going to make it.
Before I knew it, everyone was shooting and hell, I was too. I got five just within three seconds. My father wasn't even using his gun yet. He pulled out his sword and spilt three zombies heads in the blink of an eye. I chuckled to myself. No matter what, my father always loved showing off.
