It's been long enough

It's been so long since I applied to this position and it's finally open. I get up early this morning and I stretch still laying in bed, not looking forward to the process where I actually get out of my bed. It's queen size and it sits with it's back all the way to the wall and I crawl out from underneath all of my pillows as to look around me. My warm brown walls with white trim surround me as I really begin to love and understand all the opportunities around me. I live with my best friends Roxanne and Lillian. We own a house. I quit my job as a detective in pursuit of my dream job and I begin today. I swing my legs over and turn off my phone after finding it buried under the mess of my sheets. I get up and walk to my dresser and put my glasses on. I grab my silk robe that Roxanne got me for Christmas for our first one together away from our families who are in Illinois. Us 3 have known each other for some time. I choose not to put an exact number on it because I'll feel old. I'm in my early 30's which some don't consider old but I make sure that I look younger. That way, when I look in the mirror I mentally feel younger, and I find myself wanting to accomplish more in a day. Starting with going down stairs and making breakfast. Before I do that, I go to my floor length mirror in my bedroom and I look at myself. My long and strangely wavy locks fall over my shoulders and my boring brown eyes that look bigger with my glasses sit in the middle of my tan  looking face. I'm wearing my red nightgown that comes to my upper thigh and is lined with black lace. The silver robe hanging open in front of me. I look myself dead in the eye and repeat the same thing I tell myself everyday;

"Veni, Vidi, Vici." Saying this I look down at my wrist where I have the famous quote by Julius Caesar inked on and I begin to think about the fact that I should probably cover it so that I look a little bit more professional. Not like there aren't other tattoos that I have. But what I plan to wear should cover.

I open the door to my 2nd favorite scent in the world; BACON. With it in my nose I close my eyes and my feet quickly lead me through our little hallway and down our spiral stairs.

"You didn't." I open my eyes to find Roxanne and Lillian in the kitchen.

"Ops," Lillian elbowed Roxanne and they both made eye contact. Lily titled her head in my direction and Roxy met my gaze. I looked at her expectantly with an open mouth.

"Oh! Surprise! Happy first day at the BAU!" The 2 blonde headed girls with their hairs still in buns and still in their pajamas came over to me and give me a big group hug.

"You guys! You know I hate surprises! Why are you up at 5am?"

"Because our best friend just got accepted to do the job of her dreams! Why else would we be up?"Roxy smiled.

"Also because you run late for everything and we were planning to make sure you ate breakfast, didn't try to squeeze in a workout for today, and got to work on time." Lillian said between sipping on her juice box straw.

"That too." Roxy looked at her with the dude-i-was-going-for-something-different-here. I laughed and walked over to my coffee pot. I call it my coffee pot because it is literally MY coffee pot. No one touches it. Mine.

"Ah ah ah I made you your cup already." Roxy says as she puts my travel mug in my hand that was originally outstretched for the coffee pot handle. I turn to say thank you, but instead get ushered to the table where a plate full of bacon sits. Lillian props her feet up on the seat next to me and eats her toast.

"Do you know how many agents in the FBI lose a life?"

"How many Lillian?" I turn to her as I see her trying to be cool and collective while trying to get me not to go

"Too many."

"Well, isn't that just unfortunate?" I smile at her.

"I'm serious."
