Marcy and I stepped out of the sweaty classroom as the last bell rang. "I frickin failed." Marcy moaned. "Shut up," I said giving my friend a light punch. "You know as well as I do that your going to do great, like you do on every other test." Marcy gave her knowing smile and said "Well, maybe. But anyways, how is it so hot in that stupid room when it's freezing outside?!" She huffed out. I laughed in response. It was true, this years midterms were set in the usual time, December, with the usual Chicago weather. 7 degrees, with lots of snow. Ah, the Midwest.
March grabbed my hand and pulled me towards our lockers, which were fortunately right next to each other. We both unlocked our lockers, and as she started to put her books away, a note fluttered out of mine. I picked it up and read aloud, "My sweet, sweet darling." I looked at the writing for a minute, not recognizing it. Marcy laughed as we out our coats on and said "Sean is so romantic!" I shook my head. My boyfriend Sean wouldn't have written this, and his handwriting was very different, this was a fine scripted cursive, whereas Sean's was a messy scrawl. I told this to Marcy, who smiled and said "You must have a secret admirer!" I blushed and grabbed her arm. "C'mon, we're on Christmas Vacation now! Why are we still standing around? Let's go!" Marcy and I took off running down the, and I tried to shake the uneasy feeling I had from the note.-------
I flipped through last years yearbook as I lay on my bed. I was trying to decide who could have possibly left me that note. None if my classmates came to mind. My phone dinged, signaling a text message and distracting me from my thoughts. It was Sean, and he told me to look out the window. I smirked as I replied back "what is it some fancy present? I thought you weren't about that lyfee" he informed with some choice words to just look, so I did. I laughed seeing a giant blue smiley face sprayed into the snow using food coloring. I quickly out on some boots and ran outside to see Sean. He smiled at me when I got outside and said "Aren't you freezing in that?" I was just wearing sweatpants and a tank top, so yes I was freezing. Sean grabbed me into a bear hug and said "Do you want to to go to the Christmas party at the pizzeria ?" "Sure let me just change and then we can run." As I turned away, I remembered that I needed to ask about the note. I said "Hey, did you happen to leave me a note in my locker today?" Sean looked at me and said "No, Elena. Why? Did you get one?" I said yes, and he joked "Well, you must have a secret admirer then. I've got competition." I laughed and ran into the house to change, trying to ignore the hard feeling I had in my gut.
