"So then... You won't accept any American cash?" I asked the woman in a pleading voice. She had long, curly brown hair and skin the color of new fallen snow. Her eyes matched her hair and she was wearing dark red lipstick. She was beautiful. She tapped the end of her pen on the dark blue counter top between us impatiently and shook her head. She was moving her jaw rapidly as she chewed on a stick of gum and I could hear her shifting from one high heel to the next.
"I'm sorry ma'am, but no we do not accept American cash here. Can you please find a seat so I can help the next customer?" She asked politely, glancing past me and smiling. I laid my hands down on the counter and leaned forward. I wasn't planning to give up that easily.
"You don't understand... If... If I can't get a flight home I'm probably going to die here. I have no Euros and I don't have a place to stay. I need you to accept my money." I begged, holding out some wadded-up twentys. She stared at me for a second and then blinked without any interest, almost like she'd heard this excuse before... Which she probably had.
"Ma'am, please. If you have no money and no place to stay then why are you even here?" She demanded, smacking away at her gum, which was starting to irritate me.
"Because I was supposed to have a place to stay but, well... Things didn't work out." I said, giving one of the vaguest answers I could with a shrug. I wasn't about to spill my entire life story to this stranger who could probably win a loudest gum chewing contest.
"I'm sorry to hear that. Now please," She thrust her hand towards the side with enough power to knock someone over, "Go have a seat." She said in a dangerous voice. My shoulders sagged and I sighed because I knew I wasn't getting anywhere. I turned to leave when someone stepped in front of me. I glanced up at him and frowned, my irritation rising. Without saying anything, I shoved past him and walked over to the benches, feeling like a deflated Popsicle. Oh wait... Popsicles don't deflate do they? Oh who even cares.
I collapsed into the nearest bench and bowed my head, rubbing my temples with my fingers as I tried to think of the solution to my current dilemma. I heard footsteps approaching and I glanced up to meet the eyes of the guy who had originally blocked my path. I blinked several times and stared back at him with a lethal expression.
"Yes?" I asked. He took a seat beside me. I noticed he had short brown hair and pale blue eyes. He also had a slight beard and mustache and thick eyebrows, all the same color as his hair. He was wearing simple jeans and a maroon colored sweatshirt.
"I heard what you said up there, about not having a place to stay?" He questioned, and I nodded, leaning back and pressing into the hard wooden edge of the bench. They really needed pillows or something because this bench was extremely uncomfortable.
"I'd be willing to offer you one, if you want. I know it's sudden and all, and that I'm just some random stranger, but I couldn't leave without knowing you were okay." He said sincerely. I noticed he had an Irish accent, somewhat similar to James'. I gulped and had to hold back tears at just the thought of that man whore. I blinked my tears away and considered his offer. I couldn't believe he'd be willing to do that for me.
"You'd seriously do that? But you don't know me at all... I mean... I could be like, a serial killer or something." I said, using my arms for emphasis. He looked me over and smiled.
"You don't look the type." He replied, and I laughed lightly.
"I guess you're right... Um... Yeah, I'd love a place to stay." I replied with a nod. I held out my hand and smiled.
"My name's Lacey. Yours?" I asked. He shook my hand and raised one of his eyebrows in surprise.
"You don't already know me?" He asked, and I shook my head, my brows furrowing together. Either this guy had a really large ego or everyone knew everyone in Ireland... Which I doubted.
