Squeak!
Squeak!
Crunch!
Slurp!
I Grabbed the rat and tore its head off drinking the warm blood from its body. You might think this is gross but you would be surpised at what you would do to survive. I dont know how long I've been down here but when your trying to claw your way to the surface its easy to forget what year you were born, what your favorite colors are, and you even forget what your own name is. I've been digging my way out ever since I woke up and found my self in this hell hole. Every now an than I would spit to determine which was as down, a survival tip I learned when you've been buried alive by an avalanche. Every once in awhile I would punch the roof of the grave desperate to see the beautiful sky and smell the nice peaceful air, but it wouldn't work. All that would happen was a couple pieces of dirt would fall on me and my wrist would hurt. I kept digging wondering why the dirt hasn't cave in on me yet.
My worn down dirty bloody finger nails kept digging as for I was finally starting see somthing shining through the surface. I excitedly started to dig faster as the chunks of dirt started coming down around me. The chunks of dirt started getting bigger and bigger as they started coming down faster. I pushed the big chunks of dirt out of the way and climbed up through the hole that I've been trapped in for God knows how long. I looked up at the sky and realized it didn't look like what it used to. What used to be a big beautiful blue sky was now a greenish black cloud that hung over the county. All I could do was look around for anybody that could help me but all I saw was trees with their leaves all gone and bark all burnt and a little cabin on top of a hill off in the distance. A narrow river quietly flowing through the burnt grassy valley. Some trees were completely down and some were barley standing around me, I was on a hill under a dead oak tree As I turned around I was shocked to be staring at my gravestone.

It was scary seeing my grave with a crack split down the middle and stopping halfway through it, my name it in black letters and dead roses on my grave. I started to get nerves, was this a nightmare and would I wake up back in that hell hole only God knows how far I would be from surface, or would I wake up back in my bed at home with my parents down stairs? My mom cooking breakfast and my dad in the garage fixing the truck that would soon be mine. Would I be able to see my precious horse Domino again.
A slight breeze of nasty ashy air caused me to cough bringing me out of my thoughts. I immediately went into survival mode and stumble towards the small cabin my feet aching with every step I took.
As I got closer to the cabin I took notice in the charred wood and the smell of smoke in the air. I started violently coughing as I pushed the door open to find dust everywhere like no one has lived in it for years. I stumbled towards the cabinet desperate for something to eat other than rats blood and fur. I opened up the cabinet to find dusty cans, I took one out of the cabinet and ran my finger over the paper on the can pushing the heavy dust out of the way. Pears. My mind didn't remember what it was but apparently my body knew causing my stomach to growl and my mouth to water. I looked over next to me and found a dull pair of scissors. Picking the scissors up from the counter I grabbed the handle and stabbed it through repeatedly until there was a rough hole at the top. I tipped the can up to my lips and waited until I felt the pears and the nice cool liquid slide down my throat. This is so much better than rat blood I thought to myself finishing up the can of pears and reaching for the next one when I suddenly heard whimpering.
I grabbed the pair of scissors and walked toward the sound. As I walked through the rotten hallways toward the sound I gasp as I walked passed a room with an elderly couple in bed snuggling with each other but the flesh was rotting with bone starting to show creating a horrible stench. I looked up and saw blood on the walls. God save us. I closed the door to the room and continued slowly walking towards the sound. I rested my hand on the handle and I slowly twisted. As I open the door I looked down the steps to find a white dog rushing up the stairs wagging his tail, jumping up at me. As I started slowly petting the dog I took in it's features. The dog had long white and grey fur with big dark blue eyes.
I continued stroking the dog's fur when my hand felt something around its neck. I lifted up the hard fabric sliding my fingers around it until I felt something cold and smooth. Digit. The little piece of metal read. I looked up and my eyes met with the door Digit had come out of. I picked the pair of scissors back up and took small steps towards the door afraid of what I might discover. I walked down the steps with digit hot on my heels, each step announcing my presence with a creeek. When my foot touched the coldness of the concrete floor, I looked around the dark room my only way to see was the dim light shining through the basement window.
The basement wasn't much all it had was a washer and dryer behind the stairs. As my eyes danced around the room they suddenly came across moldy dog food that was spilt all over the floor along with the bag.
I jogged back up the stairs getting creeped out from the basement. Digit ran passed me and started pawing the door that led to the elderly couples room a suddenly feeling of sadness shot through me shortly follow by confusion. What happened while I was trapped in that grave. Were my parents ok or did they meet the same fate that the elderly couple met.
I decided to head to the bedroom furthest away from the dead couple knowing that tomorrow will result in burying the elderly.
I shut the door to the room and walked to the bed watching Digit jump onto the bed and lay down taking up half the bed. I climbed into into bed as a sudden overwhelming feeling of tiredness came over me. I let my hand stroke Digit's fur letting while my mind wandered to the horrible possibilities of what could've happened.
