Finding the Way Home

Chapter 3

Jerry Allison's POV
Buddy didn't meet us at the meeting spot. Why? Where had he gone? There's only one other place where I could imagine he'd go... The tour....

Buddy's POV

The car ride wasn't short but it wasn't too terribly long. I was looking out the window when I say the sign...

WELCOME TO CEDAR RAPIDS IOWA!!

That is where I was headed!! 

The man who was driving me said that we would be to the concert venue in a few minutes. 

Once we were there I heard a radio playing. And that is when the man on the radio said something....

"Buddy Holly has escaped from the hospital."

I walked around in search for my band. After a minute or two of searching, I found them. I approached Tommy and Waylon, who were standing together talking about me and how they heard that I got out. 

"Hi, are you Tommy Allsup and Waylon Jennings?" I asked hoping to get their attention.

"Yes, how may we----- BUDDY!!! We just heard that you escaped the hospital." Waylon said.

"Are you performing tonight with us?! That would be great because the other guys that they brought in are not the same." Tommy added.

"Of course I am!! That is the reason I broke out! Well actually Joe B and Jerry Allison got me out because they wanted to take me back to Texas, but I needed to get back here and finish the tour!"

With that they told everyone that I was here and performing with them. Everyone was so excited to have me back..... but there were 2 problems......... I had a sling on my arm and I didn't know if I could play my guitar, or even hold it...... and I wasn't going to be able to perform like I normally do. They told me what songs we were singing and in what order.

We solved those problems by having me just sit with the microphone in front of me, and have my guitar how I normally do, with my slinged arm strumming and my good hand on the neck. Tonight is going to be fun.....

Non of our fans knew that I was performing so they would be in for a surprise! 

We walked onto the stage and the audience screamed when they saw me. They must have been happy to see me perform. 

"HELLO CEDAR RAPIDS!!!!!!!" I almost yelled. "I'm sure all of you have heard about the plane crash..." I told them the story of how J.P. and Ritchie died and what happened in the plane. How we all were scared.... I also told them about my hospital stay and how I broke out. 

Once I was done with the story I said how I wanted to dedicate the performance to the ones who died in the crash.

I jumped into the intro of That'll Be The Day. 

The concert was great!! I didn't have any trouble with playing or singing...

I closed off with Rave On.

It was the perfect song to end the night!

The audience cheered in excitement.

We went off the stage and loaded our things onto the bus... with no one on a plane.... I'm not letting anyone get a plane the rest of the tour. We can't have anyone else loosing their life.
