A.N.: The next chapter will continue Teresa's/Manu's storyline for the last time. We're getting near the end! Also there are probably some mistakes in this due to my sleepiness, but Iwanted to get it up. I'll edit it tomorrow morning, when I'm more awake. Thanks for reading! Wordspeak :)
33 | Escape
When Emberly comes to, the pitch-dark black labyrinth slowing from its disorienting swirling, she can make out that the voice calling to her, is saying her name. She blinks rapidly, and sees that it is Kel who is staring down at her, concern in his dark eyes, reflecting the fiery light of his core. Somewhere nearby is the small outline that is no other than Quint; he’s keeping an out for any surrounding followers. Emberly coughs, and looking into Kel’s eyes just shocks her with the overwhelming amount of information Hope had given her within that dream that’s now hazy, but still she can remember enough.
“Emberly, are you okay?” she hears him say, his voice now less drowned-out; he’s brushing a finger against her cheekbone, a caring affection gleaming in his features. Emberly’s eye fall closed again, and then she opens them, breathing madly. And Kel releases an expel of relief. “You’re alive! You’re alive!”
She nods slightly, biting her lip, her head feeling quite foggy. “Phew,” Kel goes on very talkative, “we thought you had died…Finding you like you were, collapsed and pooled in blood…It was…” His face tightens, as his voice trails off, and he gathers his thoughts. “Well, we’re just glad you’re alright now…”
Her brow furrows, and she frowns slightly in pain, clenching at his nearest wrist. She swallows back the bile that attempts emerge its slimy way up her throat, and coughs out: “Kel, I need to speak with you, soon.”
He nods. “Sure thing. But for now, let’s get you up, and moving.”
“Alright,” Emberly agrees sighing. And accepting Kel’s assistance, Emberly groans as he pulls her upward, and she feels around for the wall, and finding it, uses it support to get to her feet. Feeling instantly faint as the blood rushes to her head, she winces, rubbing her back. Kel is still holding her arm firmly, so she will not fall, and she closes her eyes for a moment resting. Then, when she feels as though she can stand on her on, she mentions this to Kel, and his hand drops. “You managed to find me all right,” Emberly says, smiling as much she can.
“Yeah,” Kel says, appearing though rather downcast. “But, it was by your screaming…I had feared you…You were dying.” A clear frown heavies his lips.
“I nearly had,” Emberly doesn’t lie, doesn’t hide it from him. “She was…” Emberly’s eyes drift to the sprawled bloodied headless corpse of Anya crumpled into the dark, then immediately flit away due to the discomfort that spurts in her insides. “…Extremely difficult to defeat; but I eventually brought her down.”
“You did,” Kel says, glancing as well, appearing a tad stunned by the severity of Anya’s death, then returns his state upon Emberly. “Looks to me you handled yourself quite nicely…She looked like a tough one, that girl.”
“She was,” Emberly says her brow raising, but she takes another look at Kel, seeing his face is mudded with grime, dried blood splotched about his forehead, and a few cuts and bruises beneath his eyes; but, these details are greatly shadowed in the dark. She pats him on the cheek, grinning. “Looks like you faired alright too…”
Kel sighs. “Alright, I guess…Quint’s a better fighter than me though.” And they’re both looking at the boy, who’s smiling importantly. “But anyways,” he continues, “what could she do exactly?”
“Funny enough,” Emberly huffs, “anything to do with ice.”
Kel smirks, and he only says, “Well, this means we’re closer to the end of this thing.”
