I was still swoony as we flew back to the castle. Even though I should’ve been hyperventilating, flying hundreds of feet above the ground in the arms of a vampire, I wasn’t the least bit scared. I could only think about how that vampire’s tongue felt in my mouth. It was driving me crazy that I couldn’t feel it anymore. I craved for it. I silently chastised myself. I was NOT supposed to feel like this! We were silent all the way. I was very careful not to look at his face. I didn’t want him to see my flushed face. We had left McDonalds hand in hand with almost everyone’s eyes on us. A few of them even had their mouths hanging open. I felt an air of satisfaction at that. The expression on Rebecca’s face was unreadable. “She” who was supposed to be like the hottest babe in school just saw her rival smooch a god-like masculine beauty right in front her and her bitchy friends. Yup! It was definitely worth it.
We landed just behind the gate. “Go on in”, he said breaking the silence. “I just need to lock these gates. Can’t have those damned wolves roaming around inside.”
“Wolves?!”, I asked in shock. What the hell was he talking about?
“Werewolves”, he said shrugging. “You get quite a few around here. That’s why this gate is made of silver you know.” Seriously how could he be so damn calm about it? As if vampires weren’t enough, now WEREWOLVES?! You gotta be kidding me! I think he noticed my pale face as he said, “Hey relax, if there’s a wolf I would sense it. Go on in. It’s cold out.”
As reassuring as his voice was, the thought of walking alone up the garden path super freaked me out. I mean come on! I was attacked by weeds for Christ’s sake! But I didn’t want him to think I was a pussy so I started walking with my heart pounding. It was dead silent. No crickets, no night breeze, nothing. The only sound heard was the pounding of my heart. Each step was a huge effort, like my shoes had lead pellets in them or something. I breathed a sigh of relief as I reached the door. I turned around to make sure he was behind me. But the garden was empty. There was no one at the gate.
“Keath?”, I called out twice. No reply.
“Hey Keath this ain’t funny. Where are you?” Still no reply. Just me and the silent night. Great. Just great. After giving me the assumption that there might be werewolves around he just vanishes! Maybe he’s already inside waiting to pop out and scare me or something. I hoped it was that. Staring at the dark empty garden sure as hell gave me goosebumps. Finally after five whole minutes I couldn’t take it anymore.
I went inside and shut the door. “Damned vampires!” I grumbled. I decided to sit in the living room and wait for him to show up.
I gasped as I saw that I wasn’t alone. A few paces in front of me, was someone sitting on the sofa near the fireplace. I gasped again as a pair of red eyes met mine. They were exactly like Keath’s , on the night I first met him. Wasn’t that just last night? It seemed so long ago. It was obvious that the stranger was a vampire, considering the eyes and the deathly pale skin. He was also strikingly beautiful let me remind you. He had wavy blonde hair, a sharp nose and was clad completely in black. Very old fashioned black clothes. And yeah now for the really gross detail; he was drinking blood from a wine glass. Ew. Well what else could the red liquid be? It’s not hard to guess.
“Hello”, he said smiling politely as he got up. I could see that he made an effort to smile at me. He was tall, but not like Keath. This guy had more of a boyish look which suited his boyish build. He looked around my age, maybe a couple of years younger. His face had a very mature essence about it though, the face of someone whose seen and learnt too much.
“H-hello”, I stammered, not sure whether to stand there or run for my life. I turned around to see if Keath had come in yet. Argh what was he thinking? Leaving me alone with some undead friend of his? And I wasn’t even sure if this guy was a friend. I turned back to the stranger.
