16 year old Verity Collins was sat in her New York inspired bedroom, revising for her upcoming exams.
Oh the joys life offered.
Her thought process was interrupted by a knock at the door.
She groaned to herself, knowing she would have to answer it, as she was the only one in her house.
Verity thudded down the stairs, each step seeming to take more and more energy.
She approached the white door, pushing the handle down and then pulling, to reveal the figure of Luke Hemmings leaning against the wooden fence which led into her garden.
Verity sighed, looking up to the ceiling then back down to focus on Luke.
"What do you want, Hemmings?" she asked impatiently as he stood there, playing with his lip ring in between his lips.
"Our ball has gone over your fence." he told her, smirking.
"And?" Verity questioned.
"We want it back."
"Remember your manners, Hemmings." She had always thought Luke was an arrogant, inconsiderate prick. She had heard all the stories and didn't want to get involved with him.
She waited for him to respond, however he didn't.
"The word is please." she told him, muttering the word "asshole" at the end, not expecting him to have heard.
"Why do you treat me like that? Huh? I haven't done anything to you." He looked at her intensely; making Verity feel uncomfortable.
Luke took a few steps closer, so he was almost inside her house. She could feel his warm breath agains her cheek.
"Just let me get my fucking ball and I'll leave."
She disappeared for a moment, and then returned with Luke's ball. He had stepped back now. She threw it at his face and then slammed the door, storming back upstairs.
"You were gone for a while." Luke's mate, Calum pointed out when Luke returned with the ball. "Everything ok?"
Luke paused for a moment.
"Yeah. It's great." He booted the ball to the other side of the street where Calum was stood. "Game on!"
A/N: I know this is only short, but this chapter focuses more on giving a hint as to the relationship Verity and Luke share, and gives clues to their personalities. I'll try and make the rest of the chapters longer. Give it a vote if you like it!
