I looked around the woods. The blue sky, the ground, the trees; all of it looked the same. "If only I had left a trail of bread crumbs." I laughed in spite of myself. It was official:
I was lost.
"Crap." I said out loud. My head was beginning to hurt and I had no earthly idea where i was. I felt like a complete idiot.
"Now I'll never get back." I couldn't believe how lost I was. I turned around to see if anything looked familiar. It didn't. Everywhere I turned looked the same.
"Now where am I supposed to go?" I hadn't even thought to bring my map or a compass.
Nice goin Jane... Nice.
How could I have been so stupid. I mean, first: I go off to get some fire wood, and next thing I know I'm lost and walking aimlessly with no idea where I'm going.
With each step it felt like I was coming closer and closer to nowhere.
You know that thing where you're supposed to stay in the same place if you're lost. You know, so people can find you. I apparently hadn't learned enough about that when I was younger, because I just kept walking aimlessly.
I walked past trees, past leaves, grass, dirt, and mud. I even jogged over to a stream to maybe follow where it lead, but it just ended a few feet away from me.
It was hopeless. So, I decided I would just walk around till I got tired.
While walking I noticed this beautiful, giant, oak tree that I had passed previously. I had no idea how in the world I could've over looked it.
It looked like something out of a book or something. It had these winding roots underneath, and this beautiful brown color. The bark almost had these winding patterns in it. The tree was almost spellbinding.
See, there are some things about nature that can be enjoyed, besides the trees all being the same.
As I admired the tree more closely, I saw a Boy standing under it.
Ok, this guy can give me directions! I thought. I was ecstatic!
"Um, hello there? I was wondering if you could give me directions to the camp ground?" I asked. I was a bit hesitant though. He looked very ominous from behind. He was wearing dark, heavy clothing. Not really something I would associate with woodsman wear. I also had no idea what kind of person he was. Was he dangerous? Would or could he hurt me?
Then again, why would I have even asked him if I thought that?
He turned around at the sound of my voice. The boy that I thought I saw, turned out to be a young man. He had dark, curly black hair. And from where I was, his eyes looked like emeralds. They were almost hypnotic. He was kind of cute.
Well, not just cute. He was hot!
He had a jawline that looked like it could cut through. His features were eerily flawless. It was like looking at a perfected sculpture. He was definitely not what I would consider dating material.
Wow, did that come out as snobby as it sounded?
"Um, hi?" I said again, becoming very nervous. "Um, do you know where the nearest campground is? If you don't that's OK. I'll just find someone else. Hopefully." He didn't respond at first. He just gave me this look like I was intruding on something. I began to walk away, feeling embarrassed, but then I heard:
"Yeah, I know where the campground is." He had a mischievous smile on his face. Right then I should have left. But did I?
No.
