As their bodies entwined in a silent dance of sorrow and hope, the question that had been haunting Kook since Amelia just told him about Dohwan's proposal finally found its voice. He pulled back slightly, his eyes searching hers, a quiet desperation in his gaze. "How long, Amelia?" Amelia's voice was a barely audible whisper, the words "about eight months" echoing through the space like a confession. The air grew thick with tension, each second stretching into an eternity as the weight of her revelation settled upon them. Kook's eyes searched hers, the muscles in his jaw flexing as he tried to maintain control. His grip on her tightened, a silent testament to the tumultuous emotions raging within him. The room grew smaller, the shadows deepening around them as the weight of their shared past and the stark reality of the present collided. "Does he know that I'm alive yet?" he managed to ask, his voice strained and tight with barely contained anger.
She swallowed hard, her heart racing. "No," she murmured, the word slipping out like a guilty secret. "I've been trying to get my thoughts together." Kook's gaze hardened, his eyes narrowing. "You can't keep this from him," he said firmly. "I'd like to see him too." Kook stepped closer, his presence overwhelming. "You're engaged to him. And you're hiding this?" Her vision blurred as tears welled up, stinging hot. "I didn't plan for this, Kook," she rasped, her voice cracking. "I thought you were gone." Kook's face darkened. He slammed his fist against the wall, the sharp crack jolting her. She stumbled back, her knees buckling slightly as she leaned against the table, her body trembling uncontrollably. "But I'm not. I'm here. So what now?"
The door burst open with a bang. Dohwan stood there, his face shadowed with confusion. "I figured you'd be home by now, it's late." Amelia's legs gave out, and she collapsed onto the chair, her hands shaking violently as she wiped at tears streaming down her face. "Dohwan... I—" Kook's voice cut through, cold and unrelenting. "Dohwan..." Dohwan's eyes narrowed, tension radiating from him. "Kook? You're alive?"Dohwan smiled. Amelia tried to speak, but her throat tightened, strangling her words. She pressed her fists against her chest, as if she could hold her heart together. "I was going to call you to tell you. I just—"
"Why didn't you tell me as soon as he got here?" Dohwan's gaze locked onto hers, searching desperately for an answer, for anything that could make sense of the chaos unraveling before him. Silence crashed over them as Dohwan closed the distance, his steps slow, deliberate. He reached out, pulling Kook into a stiff embrace, but the warmth was missing. When he pulled back, his face was a storm of conflicting emotions—relief tangled with betrayal. As Dohwan pulled back from the stiff embrace, his eyes flickered between Kook and Amelia, the weight of unspoken words thickening the air. His voice was low, trembling with a fragile mixture of disbelief and hurt. Amelia's breath hitched, her hands trembling as she reached out instinctively, but Dohwan stepped back, the gesture cutting deeper than any words could. "I was scared," she whispered, her voice fragile, almost childlike. "I didn't know how—"
"You didn't know how?" Dohwan's voice cracked, the sharp edge of betrayal slicing through his composure. Kook shifted uncomfortably, his presence a raw wound between them. "Dohwan, it's not just her fault. I—"
"No," Dohwan snapped, his finger pointing sharply at Kook. "Don't." His chest rose and fell rapidly, his heart racing with a painful rhythm. Amelia's sob escaped, unrestrained and filled with regret. "I'm still trying to process it all." Dohwan's chest heaved with the weight of his emotions, his gaze flickering between Kook and Amelia, searching for answers in the fragments of their expressions. "You should've told me the moment you knew," Dohwan muttered, his voice low, trembling with suppressed rage. Kook took a step forward, his eyes dark but steady. "I didn't come back to cause problems. I just needed to see—needed to understand."
