The sun had just dripped past the horizon, the moon rising in its place, when I finally reached the house. The yellow paint was peeling, the screen door blowing open with each gust of wind. I missed this place, the house I grew up in. My old home. It almost seemed untouched my this plague. I little tear managed to escape my eye. It trailed down my cheek, splashing into my hand.
With a quick glance around me I stepped forward into the porch. Everything had been moved to accommodate supplies that were stashed in the far corner. I wasn't alone. I pulled the gun from my hip and advanced with slow, steady footsteps. With my back against the wall to the side of the front door I took a deep breath then turned the handle and pushed it open.
A breeze of cool air hit me immediately, but there was no sound. They must of been upstairs. I took a few steps in, the floor creaking beneath me. Nothing jumped out, so I relaxed and lowered my gun.
Just as I went to put it in my holster I was forced against the wall. My body was pinned at my legs and arms. I couldn't move. So I jerked, writhing beneath its grip. I couldn't imagine a zombie having enough strength to hold me down. I prepared for the agony of getting bitten.
Only it wasn't what I thought it would be. There was slight pressure on the front of my neck from a blade. It wasn't cutting me though it wasn't exactly comfortable either. The knife pressed harder. It was a human. They would kill me if I made no signs of being human as well.
"Wait! Wait!" I screamed at the top of my lungs.
Suddenly the moon drifted from behind the clouds and showed the face of my attacker. I wanted to cry and scream and laugh at the sane time.
"Dylan it's me! It's Tehya!"
No one moved. No one spoke.
Then he released me from the wall. I reached up and rubbed my neck where the blade had started to cut in.
A pair of arms wrapped around me, startling me at first. I didn't know how to respond. I wasn't use to human contact.
"You're alive" he whispered into my ear.
"Ye-yeah. I am." I patted his back before pushing him away. He just continued to stare at me, his dark brown eyes searching my face with a hopeful expression.
"Welcome home Tehya." Said a voice from the stairs behind me.
