Expendables- Devil's Ax

Chapter 7

"Sit this one out." Barney said to Rose as he nudged her arm to get her attention. "You're still in no shape to be fighting."

"Oh? I have you seen yourself in the mirror lately?" She ask rhetorically with a grin.

"Burn." Lee said with a chuckle. Barney rolled his eyes and looked out the window again at the soldiers in the street.

"We have to get that transmitter." Rose said. "That building over there..." She pointed out the window. "See that small tower just over the other roofs?" She asked Barney. He peered out the window and could see the small frame work of a tower in the light night sky as the sun began to appear over the horizon.

Barney signaled to the others to grab what they could and begin to head out. As the soldiers in the street began to move away from the church, Barney lead the group of the church and across the street to a small alleyway. Rose began to lead to the target building. Rose looked over the next street at the end of the alley and saw more soldiers coming their way. Nodding her head to Barney, he nodded back and grabbed his pistols out from their holsters. There was absolutely no doubt that the soldiers were there to kill Rose and Gunner. As he jumped out into the street he could hear a yell from one the men and the others raised their guns up. But before they could even locate Barney, he pulled the triggers back on his pistols. The bullets flew through the air and entered the men in their chests and left with a sickening crack through their backs. Taking out two of the four men, Barney fired once more, missing the man to his left but hitting the man to his right in the forehead. The man on the left fired his gun and nearly hit Barney as he tried to dodge the bullets. Falling to the ground Barney tried to raise his gun in time to fire at the man, but the soldier was faster. As the soldier pulled the trigger. A bullets exploded through his head. The rifle in his hands jerked up at the bullet left the barrel, firing up into the air above Barney.

Barney looked over at his team and saw Rose lower the rifle in her hands and then run over to him. Helping him up, she then darted down the street a few buildings before disappearing into another alley way. The Expendables followed her through twists and turns through the alleys of the small town before finding themselves out in front of the target building.

"Stay out here." She said as she knocked the locked door down her foot. Running inside, she disappeared into the darkness.

"Cover her." Barney said to everyone as they waited. Off in the distance they could hear the sound of men calling to one another. Suddenly, a man burst through an alleyway and saw the group. As he let out an alarming yell to his comrades, Lee took him down with a quick bullet to the head.

"Not fast enough..." Lee said looking around.

"Here they come!" Caesar yelled as a group of men came running down the street on either side of small group. More men appeared on the roof tops. Several of them yelled at the group of intruders in gibberish, telling them lower their guns and surrender.

"Lee, take the roof. Caesar, take the right. Gunner, take the left. I've got the front." Barney said.

"One... Two... Three!"

Rose ran through the building pushing papers and small boxes off of shelves and desks looking for the small transmitter box. After checking the downstairs, she ran up the old wooden stairs and did the exact same thing till finally, the box appeared under a pile of old military papers. Opening the lid and turning on the switches, she pushed the small red button and waited for the green light to show up. As she pushed the button, loud gunfire rang out from the street. Looking out the window, she could see two men fall from the roof across the street. Looking back down at the box, she slammed her fist on the table when the red light turned off and the green light didn't light up. She pressed the button again and waited as more gunfire rang out. The screams and yells of people outside filled the small transmitting room.
