Sophie's POV

Because our parents died innocently, and we had no family in the area at the time, we were taken to the police station to have a DNA test to see if we had any living relatives anywhere in the world. There were none, so Claire and I were taken to the local orphanage, Ms Hannigan's Home For Girls.

When we first met Ms Hannigan, she was a nice lady, but as soon as the officers left, she turned to face us and showed us our rooms. When we got to mine, I was shocked. There in plain view were two straight lines of metal frame single beds, with very thin mattresses, a moth eaten blanket and a very lumpy pillow. I thought "How could girls live like this?!? If I'm adopted, the first thing I'm going to tell my adoptive parents is to sue Ms Hannigans Home For Girls". Claire's room was even worse, she had an attic room that she shared with 6 other teenagers.

As soon as we were settled in and had a chance to get to know our roommates, Ms Hannigan took away anything electronic, like Claire's cell phone and my iPad. I protested against it, but Ms Hannigan said "As soon as you get adopted *cackle* you will get it back for good. But for now, I only allow my orphan girls 45 mins a day to talk to anyone who has contact with them, but they only get them if they are good girls, so you better be good!" I thought "Wow, orphan girls actually live like this? How can they? Why do they not run away?" I later learned that the security forces were in place because of something that happened a few years ago, when an orphan ran away. She was adopted a few weeks later. And her name was Annie. She comes back every now and again to see Ms Hannigan and to see how the girls in the orphanage are going too. She is so nice, I wish that she was my sister.
