"Anna! Let's go! School starts in two days and I need to be a normal college student and engage in some underage drinking and premarital sex."
Before I'm even able to respond, Jessie, my roommate whom I've known for about a week, chucks one of her pillows at my messing up the hair that I've been working on. "Really Jess?" I sighed looking at my slightly ruined hair in my mirror. "I spent a long time on this."
"Ughhhhh, you look hot. Now come on." With one felt swoop she drags me out of my chair before I can even protest. "We were supposed to be at Joe's at 7. April and Rose are probably already there." Joe's was this bar near campus that was popular with a lot of the college kids. "How do I look? I'm not going for slutty exactly just sort of 'you know you want to take me home and do me on the kitchen floor look."
"You look great as usual." This wasn't just the typical friend compliment that most girls give; Jess was gorgeous. She had that Scandinavian supermodel look, tall, slim, voluminous wavy blonde hair and piercing blue eyes and in her outfit she looked incredible. As usual I paled in comparison with my boring brown hair and eyes.
Taking my compliment in stride she smiled and all but dragged me out the door. "And you as I have already said are a knockout. Rose said that she heard some of the guys from the football team are gonna be there." She exclaimed clapping. "Let's hope some of them are looking to score."
"Let's go you little slut." I said trying and failing to contain my amusement at her eagerness.
"Guys!" April, Jess and I turned around to see an overexcited and slightly intoxicated Rose. "You will never guess what I just heard!" Safe to say Rose was definitely the peppy one in our group.
"What is it Rose?" April laughed as she sipped on her Long Island. We were all freshman and all underage but April knew a person and had scored us all fakes, and pretty good ones I might add. "Did Ethan ask you to marry him and have 2 kids, a dog and a house in the country?" Ethan was Rose's boyfriend. They'd been together since their freshman year of high school. Ethan got a scholarship to play football for Reed and Rose had easily agreed to the school to be near him.
"Not yet," she answered automatically, choosing to overlook April's obvious sarcasm. "But he told me that he was talking with the guys and Anna, Jake Adams is totally into you!"
"Really? Me?" Jake was the captain of Ethan's football team and was pretty much a celebrity on campus. I'd only been at Reed for a week and I can't even count the amount of times I had heard his name.
"Cause you're hot! That's why." I knew Jess was serious with her compliments but it was still strange to think that the school's golden boy was interested in me. "Well well well, look he's on his way over."
We all turned to see Jake making his way over. I had to admit I could see why just about every girl on campus, including my friends, wanted him. He was tall, probably 6'5" at least with dark brown hair and these amazing blue eyes. I have to admit that football exercises did wonders to his body.
"Ladies," He said flashing a smile that showed off his dimples perfectly.
"Heyyyyy" We all managed to respond in unison.
"I came to ask you lovely ladies if you would allow me to still Anna here for a few minutes. I promise to have her back here to you in perfect condition." He was adorable. He gave that scouts honor pose as he spoke.
Jess was the first of us to speak up. "Of course we don't mind Jake." She answered pushing me towards him. "You take care of our girl."
"I will protect her with my life." I took Jake's hand and allowed him to lead me towards the bar.
Joe's wasn't that busy yet so we managed to get two stools at the bar. "What are you drinking tonight?"
"Honey Weiss" I was freaking out. I do not know how to talk to this guy. Breathe.
"Joe! Can I get a Honey Weiss and a Fat Tire!" After the bartender handed us our beers Jake turned back to me. "So Anna, how long do I have to sit here and charm you before you just agree to let me take you out?" He was cute in that cocky type of way.
"Well now that depends on just how good you can charm me." Where did that come from? He raised his eyebrows and oh lord his smile.
After a few minutes of flirting Jake apologized and said that he had to leave but not before I agreed to go to the party at his friend's frat on Thursday. As soon as Jake was out of site I let out the breath that I had been holding in for what feels like an eternity. "Wow."
"Did your boyfriend scare you that much?" I turned in the direction the voice had come from and saw this guy, a gorgeous, beyond beautiful guy, on the stool two seats down from me. I was speechless, even more so than usual. He had short sandy brown hair and the slightest trace of scruff lining his face.
"Excuse me? Umm, he's not my boyfriend" He put down the scotch he had been drinking and turned to me with a small. And I thought his profile was beautiful. A full frontal shot just about knocked me off of my chair.
"And yet you're nervous." He made his way over and pulled out the chair right next to me.
"How can you tell?"
"Aside from the huge sigh of relief you let out after he walked away?" he answered with a laugh.
I laughed along just to try and diffuse the tension. I was nervous but I didn't think I had made it that obvious. I wonder if Jake noticed but in that moment Jake was the farthest thing from my mind. This man was all I could focus on. "You caught me." I said with a shy smile.
"Don't worry, a beautiful girl like you has nothing to be nervous about." With that said, he downed the remainder of his scotch and got up to leave.
"Wait," He turned back. "I didn't get your name." I don't know what came over me but in that moment I knew that I didn't want him to leave just yet. "I'm Anna" I continued extending my hand. "Anastasia really but most people just call me Anna." Shut up before you ramble more.
"Dominic," He answered. Instead of shaking my hand, Dominic took my hand and kissed it. I was frozen. "Goodbye Anastasia." With that he was gone and I was left watching his retreating figure walk out the door.
