We all silently waited in the car, none of us really knowing what to say. "That's so not like him to run out on her like that. There couldn't be someone else, could there?" I asked, looking to Dan.
"Jenni, that's ridiculous. Joe would never cheat. They just got married a month or so ago." Dan replied, looking at his phone to check the time.
"I got tacos!" Ricky said happily as he got into the car.
None of us really responded, we all gave weak smiles as he started the car again and we were on our drive home.
"Connor," I whispered looking over to his black silhouette.
"Yeah?" He responded, looking away from the window to make eye contact with me shining some light on his face.
"Why do people make promises they won't keep?" I whispered ever so faintly, so no one else could hear.
He leaned in closely and whispered, "Jennifer, people with good intentions make promises, but people with good character keep them."
I leaned back and looked out the window, watching the streetlamps go by in a blur as I whispered, "Promises are worse than lies. You don't just make them believe, you make them hope."
Jascianna POV
"Yeah I wan't a whole new look." I said to my hairdresser, showing her a picture I had found.
"You sure?" She asked, raising her eyebrows as she took the picture. "It's pretty different."
"Definitely. Just do it okay?" I said, slightly irritated with her.
A week later. . .
Dan POV
"It's been amazing to spend time with y'all." Jenni said, giving her brother and dad another hug.
"I'm gonna miss you Bird. Come back soon okay?" Her brother told her, handing her her bag as we left for the gate.
Jenni wiped a tear from her eye as she entered the plane. I gave her a hug and kissed the top of her head. "It's okay." I whispered.
She was soon asleep so I decided to watch a film for the rest of the flight. The time really flew by and we were both laying on the couch at home before I knew it.
"Guys! You're home!" Phil said happily as he exited his room.
"I need to drink something my gosh." Jenni mumbled, getting up to get a drink until Phil stopped her.
"No, no, you sit I'll get you both something." He said almost nervously as he walked to the kitchen and came back moments later with two shot glasses with blue liquid in them. "Here. I hear this is amazing." He said as he handed them to us. Before I could ask what they were, Jenni had already downed hers so I drank mine quickly and let the liquid fill my bones. I quickly started to feel woozy as I saw Jenni stand and crash next to me, draping her arm on my chest. I tried to talk but it came out as a blurry slur. I looked next to me and saw a girl who triggered something barely reachable and before I could further think of it, everything went black.
Phil POV
"Blehelhjabkl" Dan mumbled as Jenni lay down next to him. Moments later, they were both unconscious. I stood and looked to them as I dialed the phone. I sighed at the realization that they looked like Romeo and Juliet. Both misunderstood, just trying to love.
"I did it." I said once I heard it stop ringing.
"Good. Now send Jenni back with Caspar and it will be done." Jake said into the phone as he raggedly breathed into the speaker every now and then.
"Alright." I said as I hung up and went to go get Caspar.
Epilogue
Most people don't find love easy. They appear to have to climb mountains and step over hot coals to get to who they think is right just to find they had that person there the whole time. In this story, however, love is found all too quickly, resulting in utter chaos. Two lovers, lost in a world of many complications, have seemingly died. Though they still breathe, the vacancy of the other is almost too much to handle. They do not know what it is they are missing. They may turn to alcohol or solitary confinement to try and fill that neverending void the other person left in their wake. But, the two will reunite all because of the one who was forced to kill, to forget, to remember, to ruin all he loved in one swift motion.
