Lydia met Jackson when she was a freshmen. Both new to the school, but already rising to the top of the social charts. And it was no surprise to them. Jackson was a lacrosse star before he even reached kindergarten and Lydia had pretended to be the stereotypical popular girl almost all her life. Naturally, they had been brought together. By the time sophomore year rolled around, he had already told her he loved her, and she loved him too. They'd hit a rough patch during junior year but never once broke up. Senior year had been a struggle because their dream colleges were hundreds and hundreds of miles apart. The two fought and yelled and cried and made up, then did it all over again. And when they fought, Jackson would use the words he knew would sting Lydia most.

Lydia was greeted by an unfamiliar face when she got to Stiles' apartment.
"Uh is this where Stiles lives?"
"Yeah I'm his roommate, Scott." Lydia immediately thought back to Allisons story. He looked like he could be the one Allison was talking about. Shaggy, dark, brown hair, a slightly lopsided jaw that made him look almost innocent, and deep brown eyes that took the innocence away. His smile however, was what made it clear that this was Allison's Scott.
"You know Allison, don't you?" Lydia smiled at how he grinned at the mention of her name.
"I just met her today" he beamed. Scott called out for Stiles and he emerged from the bathroom, drying his hair with a towel. The end result made for a shaggy mess of hair sticking up in all places. Lydia grinned at how much of a dork he looked like.
"Hey Martin" he smiled.
Scott left the dorm, muttering something about going to see Allison but neither of the other two seemed to hear.
"Should we get started then?"
"So how do you know Scott?" Stiles changed the subject.
Lydia looked at him puzzled for a second but only smiled anyway.
"Uh I don't, really. My roommate, Allison, told me about him. They met earlier today and she's already kinda got a thing for him."
"Yeah he has that affect on people" Stiles laughs.
"Some people do." And for a moment, there was a complete silence, and it wasn't an awkward silence, but the two just stood there looking at each other, both too stubborn to look away first. But then Lydia remembered Jackson and she suddenly felt guilty. Why she felt guilty, she wasn't sure because all they were doing was standing, but she still felt it so she looked away, then down at her feet. Stiles got the message and grabbed his book heading out the door.
"You comin?"
Lydia grabbed her books and followed.
Night was falling fast and the fall air chilled her. The wind seemed to break right through her long sleeve shirt and as much as she tried to hide it, she let out a shiver.
"Oh are you cold?" Stiles asked.
"Not really" but a shiver betrayed her words and Stiles took his sweatshirt off for her. Lydia immediately thought about Jackson doing the same thing for her. She struggled to remember a time he willingly gave it to her, only remembering times she had to practically beg him for it.
"Thanks" she muttered.
The moon was a bright, crescent in the sky and it illuminated Lydia's face, bringing out her best features. Stiles couldn't help but think about how beautiful this strawberry-blond girl was. The two walked into the library to get started on their work.
"You cant read a book if you aren't looking at it" Lydia said to him smirking, never taking her eyes of her book. Stiles' eyes widened and he took a sharp breath, realizing he'd been caught staring at her.
"Oh, I, uh, sorry" he smiled a goofy smile.
The pair finished finding reasons in silence, but again, it wasn't awkward. It was almost as if a calm fell over them.

By the time the research was completed, it was midnight. Lydia silently thanked God that her classes were in the afternoon the next day.
"We still have to write that goddamned essay about this crap" Stiles said groggily.
Lydia sighed "I'll come over again tomorrow, yeah?"
Stiles nodded in agreement and Lydia made her way out the door.
"Wait, Lydia, your dorm is all the way across campus. I'll walk back with you."
"You really don't need to I'll be fine."
"I want to"
Lydia found it odd at how protective and sweet he'd been to her, considering the fact that they'd met only hours before.••••
