Sophie's POV
I awoke to the blasting siren of a alarm clock at 7am. I turned over and turned off the alarm, and sat up. The brightness of the sun was unbearable this early in the morning. I wasn't what people would call a morning person, but I looked forward to my job. I worked extremely hard to get where I am now. I write for the New York Times newspaper. Although, newspapers are pretty much outdated and everything is online, the newspaper still managed to get readers. I scurried to the kitchen of my brand new apartment and whipped up something to eat, got dressed, and hurried off to work.
As I walked into the building I passed the front desk and mustered a greeting to Peter with which he replied with a simple nod. Peter wasn't exactly my friend, but I would always say good morning to him to be courteous. The elevator button lit up as I pressed the button for the 20th level. The elevator doors opened and I almost bumped into someone. I wasn't the most graceful person. As I walked to my desk I heard a slight voice say,
" How was it last night?" The voice belonged to my best friend Megan.
"I was nervous for no reason." I replied.
My boyfriend, Tye and I had dinner with his family for the first time. Tye and I had been together for three years, it was about time I had met his family, even though he has never met mine.
I sat at my desk and started to work on an article about a recent kidnapping, a little girl, age 6 was separated from her family at a carnival. No one has seen her since. A witness claimed he saw a man take her, but other than that the police knew nothing. I love what I do, but each day the stories become more and more unbearable. I tossed it aside and started to write a different article as my mom called. I picked up the phone.
"Hi Sophie, are you coming in town next week for our anniversary?" said my mom
I had been so stressed out and scatter brained lately I completely forgot about my parents 50th wedding anniversary.
"Yes mom, i can't wait to see the whole family!" I replied, trying not to make it obvious that i forgot.
I continued to talk to my mom for ten more minutes and then we hung up with the understanding that I would be flying out there with Tye next week. My family could not wait to meet him, which made me even more nervous. Tye was a great guy. He wasn't the problem. My family was a little hard to handle at times. I grew up in Fairfield, Kentucky, so my family is redneck. We're talking shooting deer and hanging their head in their house as a decoration, and although Tye went to school in Kentucky he was very much a city boy.
*A couple hours later*
I heard the elevator open and in walked Tye with a dozen red roses. He was always sweet like that. I ran to him and he wrapped his arms around my back and gave me a warm hug. I hadn't seen him in a couple days and I missed him. I looked into his deep blue eyes and touched his black hair and kissed him sweetly. Tye ran his fingers through my light brown hair and looked into my light blue eyes. He asked me if I wanted to go grab some lunch, since it was my lunch break. I left with him. He made me the happiest i've been in a long time and I was intending to hold onto him, no matter what happened.
