Josefina opened the door. A man stood there.
He was in total black.
"Hello," he said in his deep voice, "I am pleased to meet you, Evvy."
"It's nice to see you too," Evvy said. Josefina was wondering how Evvy was keeping her cool. She just met her new partner, and he was very intimidating. "Let's get to work, shall we?"
Josefina offered Juan her Mexican Beans, but he politely refused.
"Ms. Sharpiro." Juan said.
"Yes, Juan?" Josefina asked.
"You have called the FBI to help us find the treasure of Lupe Sharpiro, your late daughter. Is this correct?" He questioned. Josefina shook. It was terrible to be questioned. She hated it.
"Yes. Yes sir, that is correct."
"Then let's get down to business."
Evvy looked at Juan. Was it just her, or was his skin glistening? She told herself to stop. It wouldn't work out. They were partners discovering a crime. Nothing more.
Josefina told the story of her late daughter, while Juan and Evvy listened. It was terrible. Horrible. She was such a wreck remembering Lupe, but she kept going. Until the part where the treasure came. When she brought it up. The note that Lupe left under her pillow:
Mama,
I've been looking for our fortune and I've found it after all these years. Come with me into the Piny Woods today, and I'll show you where it is. I might be dead when you find this, but I'm hoping that you will still search for it if so. The Piny Woods. 2:00. Don't be late.
~Lupe
After she told Evvy and Juan about the letter, grief overtook her. She fell to the floor, out of her chair. She was unconscious.
