Aria smiled admiring the nature of her Grandparents' back porch: Misty dewdrop grass, typical bright morning fog, and overall a beautiful never ending ranch that could make anyone's' heart stop at the beauty at first sight. Aria looked behind her and saw her mother Ella smiling with her Grandparents, Judy and Jack. Gr. Laughter echoed the ceilings as Aria watched them, this was one of those rare times she saw Ella absolutely ecstatic for the first time since at least a year ago when she divorced Byron, her father.
"Aria. why don't you come sit here with us and talk about how you've been?" Judy, her Grandmother chirped, patting on the empty place next to her on her vintage couch.
"Sure!" Aria replied. She walked over and sat down next to her.
"You've grown so much since the last time I've seen you! I still can't believe you'll be graduating High School this year! You're starting to look like a beautiful woman just like your mother! I've missed you so much!" Judy cheered. She gave Aria a big hug and smiled as big as the moon.
"Thank you Grandma, I missed you too." Aria replied quietly. She poured herself a cup of tea from the tea kettle her grandmother had on the table, as well as grabbing the last chocolate muffin Judy had in her old black and white rose bowl Aria remembered as a kid.
"So Aria, how have you been in the past few years? I'd love to hear what you've been up to lately! Any new guys you like? How are your friends?"
Aria's smile slowly faded away in the inside, but she managed to keep a fake smile on the outside and stay that way the entire trip. She didn't want to let Mona or "Red Coat" ruin her Spring Break, especially now since she's with her Grandparents, who haven't seen her in years.
"I've been great Grandma. I'm looking forward to finishing High School and then studying at Hollis for a few years to become a professional photographer." Aria replied, still with the fake smile on her face. Both Judy and Aria's Grandfather Jack gasped with delight.
"What a bright young soon-to-be adult you have, Ella!" Jack said happily. Ella chuckled at his comment and looked over at Aria.
"Soon you'll be going off on your own and you won't need us anymore." Ella said in awestruck, giving Aria the typical puppy dog face parents give their kids when they realize that they're growing up and going to be leaving them very soon.
"You know I'll always be your little girl and I'll always love you Mom." Aria chuckled and gave her mother a sorrowful smile, whom Ella also gave back.
Aria looked up at Jack giving Judy a quick peck on her wrinkled cheek. She admired the fact that they stayed together for such a long time without ever losing the love that they have for each other. Aria has a habit of not being that faithful. She's kissed many guys while dating Ezra that she had not told him about, making her feel very guilty.
Now that they're broken up, Aria feels 10 times more. It may not seem like it but she still loved him to the moon and back, even though he's now a father to another girl's baby.
"Do you know how long we've been together Aria?" Jack asked Aria with his old yet sweet and soft voice. She shook her head no.
"57 years, that includes our years together in high school and when we got married in '64 sweetie." Aria chuckled and smiled.
"It's amazing how you guys can stay together that long, to me it's like forever to be honest."
"It's called love at first sight sweetie." Jack replied giving Judy a wink and clasped his cup with hers. Aria knew that just by the way they looked at each other and gave each other the affection they both deserved, they would be ancient lovers until the end of time.
"Hey Grandma, Grandpa, can I play some of my music here?" Asked Mike, walking into the room out of no where with his iPhone.
"Sure kiddo, knock yourself out!" Jack answered nicely. Aria watched as mike plugged his iPhone into his portable speaker, pressing play and instantly blasting out some random dubstep-rock song throughout the house. She cringed at the unpleasant music, as well as Judy did.
"Hey Mom I'm gonna go take a walk in the park, can I take the rental car?" Aria asked getting up from the vintage couch.
Ella started shaking her head and opened her mouth the convince her not to, but Judy cut her off.
"Oh Aria, take my car! I may be an old hag but I know how to use a modern cars!" Judy threw Aria her keys, which she catches perfectly even though she didn't see it coming.
"Oh and by the way, my car is on neutral. If you want to change it go ahead, but remember to put it back! I don't want to be running into somebody's tree."
Aria smiled and thanked Judy. She walked swiftly out the door and unlocked her Grandmother's 2011 Volvo. Aria repositioned the review mirror as she got in and drove off to explore the beautiful town of White Pine Bay.
