"When we miss someone often, what we really miss is the part of us that with this someone awakens."

— Luigina Sgarro

Branches whip at your face, slicing through skin like paper. Your lungs burn. Your legs barely hold me up. But You keep running.

The woods are dense, even though the sky is lightening to a pale blue. Dawn is trying to break through the trees, but inside here—it's still night. Still the kind of dark where monsters exist. Where monsters chase you.

You don't know where you're going. Every path looks the same, all dirt and roots and shadows. The cold air scrapes against the cut on your thigh, and every step sends lightning through your body. Your clothes are sticky with blood. Your vision swims.

Still, you run.

Leaves crunch behind you. Not constantly, but just enough to remind you that you're not alone out here. Every few seconds—snap. Crunch. Then silence again. Maybe it's some animal. Or maybe he wants you to know he's close. As if he wants you to feel hunted.

And you do. God, you do.

Your breath comes out in broken gasps. "Please," you whisper, but you don't know who you're begging. God? Yourself? The version of Jungkook who used to kiss you like you mattered?

That version is gone. If he ever existed at all.

A root catches your foot. You fall hard, palms scraping against gravel and wet earth. Your body is sluggish when you get up. The adrenaline that kept you going before is fading, replaced by a cruel exhaustion that wraps around your limbs like chains.

"I don't want to die out here," you whisper.

And that's when you hear him.

Breathing. Close.

You spin around. And there he is. Jungkook steps into a patch of pale light, and your heart drops.

His face is streaked with blood. A gash cuts across his cheek, raw and angry from where you stabbed him with the letter opener. His black hair is matted to his forehead, and his eyes...

His eyes are worse than the darkness of the woods.

"Y/n," he says, low and steady. Like you're just continuing a conversation. "You really shouldn't have run."

You grip the tire iron tighter, raise it—but your arms tremble too much. You swing anyway, aimless and wild. He dodges, grabs it mid-air, and rips it from your hands like it's nothing. The metal clatters to the forest floor.

Then he lunges.

You scream and both tumble, crashing into dirt and leaves. You kick at him, hit him anywhere you can. He grabs your wrists, trying to pin you down, but you writhe beneath him, screaming. Your fingernails dig into his face, his neck, whatever you can reach.

He curses. "Stop—stop fighting me—"

You bite his arm, hard. You taste copper.

He howls, jerks back. That gives you enough room to twist and slam your foot into his shin. He staggers, and you scramble to your feet, dizzy and barely able to stand. You both stumble through the last of the trees, locked in a brutal dance. Neither of you is winning. You're both bleeding, both breathing like you've got glass in your lungs.

And then suddenly, you see an end to the woods. You see a clearing. You break through the last of the trees, with Jungkook on your tail. The woods spits you out onto a dirt road. The world is open again. Cold air rushes at your skin. You can see the sky—dusky blue and tinged with pink.

You both collapse and hit the ground hard, and Jungkook lands on top of you with a grunt.

You try to shove him off, but you have nothing left. Your body is a bag of bruises and shattered will. You try to scream again, but it comes out hoarse and broken.

Jungkook hovers above you. Blood drips from his cheek onto yours. But he's not moving. He's just looking at you.

His chest heaves, and something in his expression shifts. The rage. The wild, animalistic rage is gone. Replaced by something softer. Something almost human.

His voice is barely a whisper. "I never meant this to happen...."

His eyes—obsidian and ruined—fill with tears. One slips down the curve of his cheek and lands on your collarbone.

You should hate him.

You do hate him.

But in that moment, you both are so helpless that all your masks have evaporated. And all you see is a boy that he used to be. The boy no one saved. The one who probably never got to be just a boy. The pain behind his eyes is deeper than this forest. Older than any of us. No child should go through what he did. No one cared. No one looked back. Not until it was too late.

"I'm a monster," he murmurs, as if he heard my thoughts. He completely breaks down. Saliva forms at his mouth when he continues. "What have I done? All I wanted was you. Because you saw me for who I was. When—when we were young. And you liked me still. But what have I done?"

He leans his forehead against yours. You don't know what to say in return. Thanks for not killing me yet?  You are still scared and want to scream. You want to cry. But you just lie there, stunned and aching and so, so tired.

A ray of light hits your face. Are you dead? Are you in heaven? But all you see is Jungkook's tormented face. You barely turn your head, breaking Jungkook's trance. You both look afar and see headlights. A car. You're both frozen like animals caught in the open.

The hum of an engine. Tires crunching gravel. Civilization. Help.

Your voice is barely a croak, but you try anyway. "Help..."

The car slows, just slightly. You think they see us.

You try to lift your hand. Try to scream louder. But everything blurs. Your body collapses under the weight of pain and exhaustion. The sky spins, fades to grey.

The last thing you see is Jungkook's face—bloody, broken, and weeping.

The car's engine die. Perhaps it stopped. The last thing you feel is hope. Fragile. Flickering.

Please, someone save me.

Please.

A/N : Wow, this chapter was painful to write. What are your thought?

Also, I've started a new book called Never Let Me Go. It's not a fanfic but you might like it if you like romance.
