* AVERY *
Kelsy made a new record of the longest game of horizontal hustle with any guy she brought home at night. She told me he was the only guy that got to "have some fun" with her more than once. Although she was having the time of her life, I had to bring Darren to my room because his room was next to hers, and his walls weren't sex soundproof.
While I was covering my ears with headphones from the noisy shouts coming from the other side of the hallway, I spent the entire night making preparations for a new cheer I created for my cheerleading squad. Not only that, I had to watch my little brother for any nosebleeds while he was sleeping. Every time he had a nosebleed, we had to rush to the hospital and stay there for several days until we got results from his medical tests. The smell of the hospital was nauseating that I ended up vomiting before I even got to go inside the place.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
The sound of the alarm clock startled me that I immediately fell off my chair and landed on the floor. Unfortunately, it wasn't made of carpet.
"Ree?" Darren woke up shortly, and stretched his arms as long as he could. He wore his red baseball pajamas that I bought for him for his birthday last month.
"I'm alright, Sport. Go take a shower while I make you some breakfast," I said merrily. Darren got off of the bed, and grabbed his hat before walking out of the bedroom. I sat back on my chair to rethink about my plans for that day.
Ring. Ring. Ring.
I heard my cell phone make some noise before checking to see who was calling. Caleb Sterling. Without any doubt, I denied the call and tossed my phone to the bed. Throughout the past two weeks he barely wanted to talk to me, but suddenly he decided now was the best time? I didn't think so.
After a quick shower, I got dressed in my brand new cheerleading uniform with my last name labeled on the back of my top and the school's logo on the front of it. Skirts got shorter; no thanks to Kelsy's crazy persuasion that had most of the girls support her. I felt inappropriate wearing it, but I was lucky to have leggings and black bottom covers included.
Later that morning, I had to drive to the football field with Darren early to quickly teach the girls the new cheer before the football team's third game started.
"Ready? Okay! One, we're the M3 Molerats. Two, we've got the power. Three, we'll beat the Gators. Four, again but louder," I started the cheer for the girls to repeat and remember. Kelsy wasn't impressed with it, so she decided to spice things up with her classic insults.
"Ready? O-nay! What kind of cheer was that, Abigail? I expected a lot more from you," she said disappointedly.
"O-nay? What are you? A horse?" I asked, feeling careless about the "oohs" coming from our squadmates. She had nothing else to say.
I saw her face expression change when she saw Tucker with the other football players by his side. She smiled at him as he smiled back at her. I knew they were close friends since I introduced him to the family, but after the breakup it became annoying to see them very friendly.
"Come on, Kelsy. We need to learn this new cheer right away," I said firmly. She turned out to face me, and rolled her eyes before getting in line to repeat my dance movements. I allowed some of the girls to freestyle by adding flips and jump splits. One girl did a one-hand handspring to show off her martial arts techniques. Nevertheless, it wowed Darren, who was sitting on the bench with Kendra and a few more people that decided to arrive early. I waved at Darren and he smiled directly at me before getting back to playing a baseball game on his Nintendo DS.
Kendra decided to leave Darren by himself while she went to talk to another bachelor. I hated her being here, but since Kelsy was her only child she had to be here. As much as I wanted to confess to my father about her adultery life, I couldn't because of Kelsy and her past.
While I was keeping an eye on Darren, I felt as if my name was being called out by someone... with a deep, manly voice. Before I even got to turn around, I was perfectly wrapped around with muscular arms that smelled refreshing and had a smooth chin touching my shoulder which felt strangely comfortable. I was speechless to speak a word, and I was trapped to make a move.
"Jouer le jeu," he whispered in my ear before making a quick peck on my temple. I was ready to hit the guy, but then I remembered there was only one guy who I knew fluently spoke French and could've possibly done that stunt reasonably.
"Good morning, Caleb. It's good to see you," I lied as I touched his cheek having my fingers squeeze them slightly aggressive and turned my head to look at him straight in the eyes. If looks were deadly, I would've killed him right there.
"Good morning to you too, my perfectionist. Mind if I talk to you for a second... alone?" he asked politely. He never talked so kind to me, and it scared me. Yet, I had to keep my smile going for the people to see.
"I thought you'd never ask," I said politely before grabbing his hand and taking him to the abandoned locker room. Along the way, I heard gasps and awes coming from the girls and a few football players. I could have sworn Kelsy had a baby heart attack when she saw me holding his hand.
"Way to go, dude! Go get her!" one of his teammates shouted.
"I knew there was something going on between them," my squadmate, Rachel, said to her friend.
The reaction that surprised me the most was Tucker's. His face expression looked pissed, and his fists clenched very tightly that they could break a board.
When we got to the room, I watched him looking around the room for any student or adult, and the coast was clear.
"Great, now that we're all alone, I need to talk to you abou-"
Before he got to finish his sentence, I stroke a punch to his umbilical area... at least I thought I did until I felt excruciating pain on my left hand.
