Stella's POV:
I was about to faint.....but I didn’t. My legs were numb, useless. I sank to the floor, unable to what had happened, my eyes drifted to the door.
Then man was still standing there holding the gun, as if he was enjoying a show.
Then....another man appeared behind the first.
With a swift, brutal twist, he snapped the man's neck.
A sickening thud echoed as the lifeless body hit the ground.
I gasped. Instinctively, my hand flew to my mouth.
After he had taken care of his business, he left.
Was he helping me?
The horror of it snapped me out of my daze. My pain vanished....or had it ever been there? I frantically checked myself. No blood. No bullet.
Relief hit me like a wave.
Then I saw it....the computer. The screen was shattered, glass webbing out from the center. Had he missed on purpose? Or was I just lucky?
"No time to think. Not now. I have to leave the mansion alive." I whispered under my breath.
Keeping low, I crawled toward the door, each movement painfully quiet. My heartbeat thundered in my ears....but I kept going.
I had to.
But then.....
Disaster engulfed me in its cold and unsettling embrace.
My foot struck the frigid, lifeless hand on the floor. I tripped, crashing onto my stomach. The air knocked out of my lungs.
"Ahh, it hurts so bad," I hissed, clutching my ankle as pain flared sharp and hot. Still, I forced myself up, limping, and crept toward the stairs.
I ducked behind the railing, eyes scanning the chaos below.
The once-beautiful house was now a war zone. Furniture lay in splinters. Windows shattered and glass crunched under boots. Loud screams and gunshots echoed like a nightmare soundtrack that refused to end. I didn’t know who they were or what they wanted....but they had turned this place into hell.
I couldn’t dare to go to the ground floor where the war was in full force. I only heard their screams and gunfire. Mr Romano must be there, I couldn’t help but hope he would be fine.
Then I saw him.
A gunman.
I dropped to the floor instantly, pressing myself flat.
It was as the universe had taking some sort of revenge on me, making this day the worst of all.
I peeked through the railing.
His weapon was pressed harshly against Mrs. Hailey's forehead. Her entire body trembled, sweat trailing down her face.
"Please… please leave me," she whispered, her voice shaking, tears streaking her cheeks.
"Tell me everything you know, then maybe I’ll let you live," he growled.
"I know nothing. Believe me, I beg you."
He tilted his head.
"Then you’re useless."
He pressed the trigger. I squinted my eyes tightly. God... no, please, no... But the gunshot never came.
I looked down again....the bastard had run out of bullets and was loading more into the gun.
And that’s when I saw it—another gun on the floor, just a few feet from me.
