Chapter Four: Game On.
"When she wakes, make sure she doesn't move a lot, the rib will cause discomfort but the drugs should take some of, if not, all of the pain away." A voice said.
"I'm gonna go get a cup of coffee, you boys stay here." I heard my dad say. Once his footsteps were gone one of the boys spoke up. "Where the hell is Jenson?"
"Asher, he's still talking to the police," Will began. "If you start talking about how I need to be patient, I think I might break your neck, William." Asher snarled.
"What do you want me to say, Ash?!" Will demanded. "Something reasonable! Our sister almost got raped and you're sitting here, calm, cool, and collected!"
"It's not like we can go and beat those guys down, Asher. They're in jail now!" Will said. "Whatever. You're not the one who found her,"
"Do not rub that in my face, Asher." Will's tone took a deadly spin. "All I'm saying is, if you hadn't gone out to dinner,"
"Asher, that's enough!" Will shouted. I'd never heard Will shout-as he was usually the calm one. He never lost his temper and it took a lot for him to lose his cool. It seemed like Asher had hit the wrong spot. "I'm just saying!" Asher shouted back.
"God, I can't stand the sight of you right now, Asher." I heard Will's footsteps leave the room. Without opening my eyes I started talking.
"Did you have to be like that towards him, Ash?" I asked as I popped an eye open. Asher was standing with his back against the wall and his arms folded across his chest. Looking like he wanted to kill something.
"Are you okay?" He came over and sat down in the chair by my right side. I tried nodding my head but I stopped when it brought a lot of pain to me. "It hurts," I ground out. "Do you want me to go get the nurse?" He started to stand. "No, I want to be awake." I told him. He nodded and then sat back down.
"Those guys, Grace, they trashed the house. They tried taking so much stuff, but none of that matters," He mumbled.
"Of course it does, that's your home, Asher," I gritted my teeth when I took a deep breath. It felt like my rib was broken. "It doesn't matter because," He cut off when Jenson and Will walked in the room continuing a conversation.
"So, you're parents are alright with you being here?" Will asked. "Yeah, they understand." Will nodded and stopped when he got a look at me. Asher got out of the chair. "I'm hungry, you coming Will?" Asher asked as he pulled on his jacket. Will nodded and the two left already arguing over McDonald's or Burger King.
Jenson came and sat in the chair that Asher just vacated. He took a deep breath. "How are you feeling?" He asked quietly. "Horrible. My entire body hurts, and it hurts to breathe and talk." I told him. He nodded but made no move to get the nurse. I hesitated. "What...what happened after," I broke off when a dozen sharp pains tore through my body, causing me to whimper in pain.
"I'm gonna go get the nurse," He stood up. "No! I want to be awake," I told him. "Okay," He plopped back down and looked at me. "Well, after you passed out, your dad and the police showed up and your dad...all hell broke loose. The police had to handcuff him when they brought you out on the stretcher. It took like, three guys to pull Ash off of the guy who," He broke off and tried to say the right thing.
"Didn't finish me off," I finished for him. It took him a second, but he eventually nodded. "But he didn't, Grace. And you're safe now." He told me fiercely. There wasn't a bone in a body that thought any different. I still thought it weird at how my body reacted to being in his arms.
