The alarm clock blared at 7:00 am on the dot.

Dan grumbled angrily, annoyed at the inanimate object. At the time, it had slipped his mind the purpose of the alarm ringing at such early hours. He just wanted it to stop. The younger brit turned on to his opposite side, snaking his arms around another's torso. "Phiiiil," he nagged, "Shut that horrid thing up." Phil obliged and calmly turned off the alarm. He turned to face Dan, and began placing kisses all over his face. "Come on, Bear. We gotta get up." Phil whispered, "It's Dil's first day of third grade." Dan's eyes shot open as realization dawned on him, "Oh my god, how could I forget??" He mentally scolded himself for being such a terrible father as he rushed to the shower.

Once Dan stepped out of the room, an amazing aroma lured him to the kitchen. Phil was skillfully preparing scrambled eggs and bacon. "Dan, do me a favor and wake up Dil. Breakfast is almost ready." Phil called. Dan nodded and went to the door labeled as Dil's Room, formerly known as Phil's room. He slowly opened the door and peeked in. The boy was asleep with not a care in the world. Dan chuckled to himself, sitting next to Dil on the bed. "Wake up, sleepyhead. You have to get ready for school!" Dil stirred in his sleep, his eyes fluttering open. "But I don't wanna get up.." he whined as Dan placed a kiss on his nose. "Too bad. I've laid out your clothes for you, get changed quickly. Your father prepared breakfast, and we're a bit tight on time." Dil grinned at the thought of food and crawled out of bed.

Dan left him to change and returned to the cook in the kitchen. Phil greeted him with a smile. "Hey, did you wake Dil up?" The chef cooed. "No, I completely forgot to." Dan replied, the sarcasm fluent in his tone. "Good." Phil rewarded him with a quick kiss to the lips. "Did you help him change in to his clothes?" Phil expected a nod, but was shown the opposite. "Well why not?" He asked with the slightest bit of sass. "Because he's in the third grade, Phil. We need to stop babying him." Phil didn't reply. He knew what Dan said was true.

As if on cue, Dil scurried in to the kitchen. "Daddy!" He giggled as he ran in to Phil's arms. "Good morning, munchkin.. Why is your shirt like this?" Phil quickly noticed how odd it looked on him, and realized that it was inside out. He shot Dan a glare he knew all to well. The brunette nervously chuckled as he transferred Dil to his arms. "You silly little goose, you put your shirt on the wrong way." He looked down fondly at his child, finding his innocent mistake quite amusing. As he helped Dil reverse the shirt, Dan's mind became clouded with heavy thoughts.

"How sweet are the hopes and the pleasures of youth,

Supplementing the feelings of candour and truth.

In life's joyous morning, how glowing, how bright,

To vanish its sorrows as transient as light.

Too soon, must these feelings decay,

To soothe or to brighten life's desolate way.

The storms of the world they can never survive,

And when once gone, they can never revive."
