That's all I ever hear at night. That one faint, childlike lullaby, coming from my hallway. It gets a little louder each time the clock strikes twelve, every night. It's been going on for three weeks now.
I repeatedly checked outside my door, searching for the source of the singing child. Every single time, I've found nothing.
Just two nights ago, I bought a flashlight from the store just a few blocks away from my apartment building. I flicked it on and shone it down the hallway, the beaming light making deep shadows at the edge of its reach.
Everything seems normal, not a thing out of place. I finally gave up the search yesterday, and asked my neighbors if they heard it too.
They hadn't heard any singing in their apartment, let alone mine. It's twelve AM now, and I think the singing is right outside my door, the never ending lullaby...
