The Basics of Cover Making 101:
Having an appealing cover can help substantially with readers and increase the appeal of your story. However, making a cover is not always that simple, but here are a few pointers and tips that will (hopefully) help you make better covers.
1. Use colors that fit in with the picture. It’s practically an eye sore when the colors don’t coordinate at all. Use neutral colors like black, white, gray, or colors that blend in with the cover. Stray away from vibrant colors like neon purple or green.
2. Pick an eye-catching photo. It’s always important to find a cool photo. Image sites that I would recommend are weheartit or devaintart. Pick a photo with room to put text- it shouldn’t be crowded. Sometimes plain covers are the best.
3. Please, make sure your cover is the right size. Covers are 256 by 400, and my personal pet peeve is when I see covers too big or too small. Remember, the dimensions are 256 by 400.
4. Use “more advanced” editors. While editors like PicMonkey or iPiccy are great, if you really want your covers to be brought to the next level, try editors like Pixlr Advanced, GIMP, or Photoshop.
5. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Often, more advanced editors are more difficult to use and less user-friendly. Don’t let this faze you- just ask for help.
Hopefully, the next time you make a cover or graphic, you remember these simply rules. Well, that’s all! See you next week!

* Message from the editor: I always say simpler is better, so I tend to use Picmonkey.com or pixlr.com (efficient). Also, sizes for profile pictures are 128 incase you were looking into making one of those for yourself. :) *
