Chapter 2

~6 years later~

I couldn't believe it. I was starting for the first time on a WNBA team. I had been playing for the Los Angeles Sparks since I graduated college. Tonight we were playing Indiana Fever, the team Normani plays for. Since its our home court, I watch out for her as they enter. She's the last one to come in. She has box braids and they're pulled up into a pony tail. The dark blue and yellow uniform hangs off her body perfectly. Normani spots me and waves with a smile. I wave and smile back. She starts coming towards me.

"Hey!" Mani says as she hugs me. I hug her back. "I can't believe it's been what, almost six years since I've seen you?!"

"Yeah, I guess it has been that long."

"Okay, well anyways I was gonna ask you if you were up for helping with a basketball camp this summer."

"Up for it? That's be so cool!"

"Great! I already asked Lauren because we went for dinner to catch up last week and Ally because we just played the Stars."

"I can ask Camila if you want. She's still my best friend."

"That'd be great! Do you still have the same number? Because I can text you the info and you can forward it to Mila."

"Yeah. That'd be great I'll ask her later."

"Perfect! Good luck DJ."

"Same to you," I reply as she walks away. Only 10 more minutes until the game begins.

The game ends in victory for us by one point and one second.

"Nice job today," I say to Normani before heading to the showers.

"You too," she replies. "See you at camp!"

"See you then," I say as I walk into the locker room.

Later, I get a text from Normani and copy and paste the info and text Camila.

Dinah: girrrrrl I saw mani today and she asked me to host this camp with her, Lauren, and ally and ask you if you wanted in. here's the info. July 10-23 sleep away basketball camp in Philadelphia, PA. Get there the 9th so we can go over all plans.

Camila: tell her I'm in!!

I text Normani and say Camila's in. Suddenly, I can't wait for July 9th.

July 9th rolls around and I board my flight to Philadelphia.

When the plane lands, I see a girl from Fever holding a sign with my name on it. She drives me to Peabody Hall on the Temple campus, which is where the staff and the campers will be staying for the 2 week duration of the camp. It's in short walking distance from the court we'll be using for the camp. I find out that I'm rooming with Camila. After I put my bags in the room that I'm staying in, I go to the common room, where I see my old teammate.

"Dinah!" Ally says as she runs over to hug me. "How's life playing for the Sparks?"

"It's amazing. How's playing for the Stars?"

"It's great!"

I see Lauren and go say hi to her next. "You've been playing for Connecticut Sun, right?" I ask when we release each other from our embrace.

"Yeah. I heard you started your first game a couple of months ago against Mani. Was it exciting?"

"Very."

Camila comes running over and koala hugs me as soon as I'm done talking to Lauren. "Life is rough when your best friend lives and plays in California when you live and play in New York," she says.
