hello everyone! so this chapter is the start of a collection of "snapshots" from the lives of two fictional characters, Mason and Emerson. Just for the record, this isn't the original plan for the book. Long story, no pun intended. Also, each title will be a quote from a song that fits the chapter. This chapter's song is Story Of My Life by 1D. enjoy! - one of the authors, C

<><><><><><><><><><>I flopped back against my Spiderman bedspread and let out a groan. I was utterly and completely bored out of my mind, with absolutely nothing to do on another lazy Sunday.
Even just laying on the bed, after a while it started to get too stuffy up in my room. I swung open the door and tromped down the stairs, jumping down the last two steps with a thud.
"Moooooom! I'm bored. Can you take me somewhere?" I moaned, leaning my chin on the ancient desktop computer while her nails clicked furiously across the keyboard.
"Mason, can't you see I'm busy? I have to get this done today. I have a lecture on Tuesday, and you know that. Go play outside. It's beautiful out." She didn't even take her eyes off the screen, too immersed in her work.
I kept groaning, reaching my hands up to my messy hair and mussing it up further, purely for something to do. "But Mom! I can't play by myself! And you know no one lives on our street with kids."
Mom wasn't fazed in the slightest. Plenty of weekends identical to this one have stocked her with ways to get me out of the house. "One of the neighbors said the other day that a new family was moving into that empty house out by the park today. She said she thought there was another six year old in the family that you could play with."
Now that was something exciting, finally!
"Can I walk there and check it out? Maybe he will play with me!" I begged, puppy dog eyes in full affect.
"Sure, but make sure to stay on the sidewalk! Maybe invite them for dinner here sometime to get to know them. And be nice!" She leaned in to kiss my cheek but I ran away, anxious to have a new friend.
"Okay, thanks! Bye mom!" I called back, grabbing my favorite red fire truck, the screen door already slamming behind me.
It really was nice out, with the dappled sunlight streaming through the trees and reflecting off of the stream behind our house.
I thought about how awesome it would be to finally have a boy live close enough to me that I could go to his house and play whenever. I hoped he liked cars and action figures. Would he think The Incredibles were too stupid and babyish? What about Spiderman? Did he still believe in Santa?
Equal feelings of nervousness and excitement coursed through me as I saw a moving truck pull into the house's driveway. I was just in time!
Ducking behind a bush quickly, I retied my shoelaces and tried to brush out the dirt on my t-shirt, wanting to make a good first impression. I even tried to tuck in my shirt, but I don't think I got the back part in right. Oh well.
After I was satisfied with my appearance, I strolled casually up the street, and watched as a few burly men carried sofas and beds and boxes (oh my!) out of the truck. Then another car pulled into the driveway, and a woman and a daughter stepped out. The mom looked frazzled and tired, and seemed like she just wanted a good long nap. The girl seemed to be excited to move into a new house, but had more of a sweeter, quieter feel than someone else might. I squinted, straining my eyes to learn more about this new family. The little girl actually looked kind of pretty! She clutched a toy truck in one hand, an American Girl Doll tucked under her arm, and held her mother's hand in the other.
