The next morning when she woke up the clock said 10:13am. "OH MY GOSH!" She exclaimed, she ran into the bathroom and showered quickly putting on jeans and a plain black v-neck shirt showing off just the right amount of cleavage and letting the dog out back while she put on her make-up. Thank god the back had gates all around.
Natalie walked through the diner doors, and went straight to the back to the office she had her interview in. "I'm here for work, I'm soo sorry I'm late. New house, forgot to hook up my alarm completely, you understand? Please understand."
"What's all the worry about Natalie?" Said the boss.
"Well sir, I am kinda late," She said.
"No? Natalie it's about 7am. Why would you think your late? Your not due here for another two hours?"
Natalie stopped to think.. The clock she looked at said 10:13, but that clock also came with the house, as did most of the furniture, which meant when was the last time it was changed for daylight savings or anything like that? Gosh, now she felt dumb.
"I'm sorry sir, I thought I over slept for some reason. Mind if I just hangout here til my shift? I'd hate to have to go home, to turn around and come right back."
He nodded. While sitting there she wondered how Duke was going to be for the day, she really hoped he'd be okay without her, he's been pretty attached to her side. She smiled with that thought.
~Start of her shift~
Great, her first costumer was there, and he was rather cute. In his last twenties around her age, black hair, green eyes, nice smile, and boy were his teeth white!
"Hello sir, my name is Natalie. Can I start you off with something to drink?"
"Well hello there Natalie, my name is Cale, not sir," he said with a wink. "And yes, I would like a coffee. Black."
She nodded, and walked away.
2minutes later she returned to the table and set down the coffee, "are you ready to order or would you like more time?" She asked.
"No I'm set to order. What would you recommend?" He asked.
"Well honestly, this is my first day working here, and only my second day living in this town. So I have no clue. Looks like your going to have to decide for yourself Cale."
"Well on that note, I would like some biscuits and gravy, full order with a side of hash browns Natalie."
She smiled and walked away. She put in the order with the chef and went to check on her other customers that she had gotten since Cale. An older guy in his late 60's one of the other waitresses told her his name was Terry and he's a regular comes in every morning and orders the same thing, Coffee decaf and black, and one egg with a side of sausage. A family; wife, husband, two kids. And an older woman that claimed she didn't want to order because she was waiting for someone, but couldn't remember who. Natalie figured she wouldn't bother her just yet.
The bell dinged and brought Natalie right back over to the window she had put in three orders in already and there was a steaming plate in front of her, "Order up!" said the chef with a wink. 'Yuck' Natalie thought but grabbed the plate and walked away.
She got to Cale's table and set it down, "There you are, anything else I can get for you?" Natalie asked.
"Well since your asking, I would like your number." He said with a smiling showing off his gorgeous teeth.
Natalie honestly considered it, but finally deciding it was unprofessional smiled and said "sorry, but I can't do that" and walked away.
The older lady who was confused about who she was meeting eventually left. As did the family. Terry asked for two more refills before he left. And then once I started hanging up my stuff for the day because my shift was over, Cale raised his hand.
"May I ask why you feel the need to raise your hand?" Natalie said.
"Well because I wanted to get your attention before you left, I need you to take my order, so you get the tip."
Natalie smiled, and set down the bill on his table. He pulled out a credit card and handed it back to her, his hand touched her fingers lightly, she felt herself blush and walked away.
She brought back the receipt and his card and walked away. When he got up and walked out she went back to his table. There was the receipt with the total amount on it $8.50. and underneath was his wrote in tip amount $20.00 and an arrow pointing to the back. She flipped over the receipt and there was a number, she pulled out her cell phone and sent a quick text to the number.
"I don't accept bribes, if you gave me this ginormous tip to get me to give you my number you wasted the money, I probably would've outside of my work anyways, you just had to leave your number(;"
She put her phone back in her pocket only to take it out again,
"You deserved it, thanks for the great meal. I'd like to see you again. -Cale"
"Well we'll see about that. And I didn't make the food, Jim did. Our chef. thank him."
He didn't text back after that. Natalie was walking home when she got a really bad stomach pain. She must've been hungry.
She rushed home.
