"Come down for breakfast right now, you stupid kid!" I heard my mother yell. A few years ago she would have never said something like that. No one would of, or at least no one in Westown. A few years ago was a different time though. Everyone acts like my mother just did now. The dark changes people. A few years ago there was light, happiness, fun. Now the earth is a place of darkness and misery. So much has changed. I still remember when the dark came, November 4th. I was playing soccer with my friends, James, Cole, Benny, Quinn, Dave and Pete. They're not my friends anymore. Anyways, Dave had just fired a shot at the net. I, the goalie, made an amazing save. As I held the ball, it became dark. We thought we had just lost track of time. But Benny had a watch, it was 2:00pm. Cole, the smartest, decided it might be a cloud or some sort of eclipse. We all head home. I walked back with Quinn who was two years older then me. The reason I knew him was because he was my neighbour, and a pretty cool dude. At the time. Now he's just as bad a person as everyone else. Same with the rest of my old friends. When I went home I clicked on the TV. It turned straight to the news. I saw a reporter in a blue suit with tons of cue cards, babbling on about something to do with animal abuse. A topic I didn't care about when I was ten. Then suddenly a pale man, who looked very nervous and was wearing a black jumpsuit pushed blue suit man and sat down. Like all ten year old boys that act of violence caught my attention. "Breaking news!" The reporter started, his voice filled with panic, "The world has gone dark. Everywhere. No light, all electricity is slowly going out, starting in Austria and making its way to Northern parts of Canada. Scientists are researching this very moment, they believe it might be a..." the TV snapped off. Same with the lights. I looked outside, the street lights were off. The power outage has hit me. "Isaac!" I heard my mom yell from upstairs, her panicked voice filled with fear. "What just happened." I had replied. "Are you alright?" She asked. "Ya!" I yelled back. She rushed downstairs, tripping near the bottom. She was sent tumbling down. A few days later she turned mean. As well as everyone else. Two years have passed, yet nothing happened. The light never returned. The TV never came back on. No one became nice again. It was horrid. It is still horrid. I've come to the conclusion my life sucks. It will never change. I head down to breakfast, filled with the dread of facing another day.
