MIA WOKE UP to the sound of rock music blasting in the background and the familiar voice of Harper's screaming into the phone.
"No, I'm not going to reschedule! You're joking, right? You never told me you had plans today, you told me yourself that you can come. I am not getting a noise complaint right now...hey! Stick to the topic! What do you mean, I am not overreacting... I haven't even gotten breakfast yet, you prick!"
Mia lifted up her head from her pillow and stared at Harper the best that she could through her crusty eyes. She would had said something by then, but she was still half-awake and was already planning to grab headphones, plug them into her ears, and fall asleep again.
"You know what? I'm busy right now. Maybe you should reschedule our phone call sometime because I have plans right now! What? No, I am not copying what you just said. I SAID, I'M BUSY RIGHT NOW, CALL ME BLOODY LATER!"
Mia jumped up from her bed from how shockingly loud her roommate was, accidentally hitting the shelf that was awkwardly hanging from the wall above Mia's bed. Mia groaned and clutched her head while Harper ended her conversation with who-knows-who that was on the phone and turned off her music.
Having noticed Mia for the first time, Harper looked over at Mia and shrugged her shoulders. "Morning, did I wake you?"
Mia let out a deep breath, gathered all of her thoughts, and waited until she was awake enough to form a response to Harper. "No, I think I would've woken up at this time anyway...this won't happen again, right?"
Harper shrugged her shoulders carelessly and flopped down on her bed with her iPhone in one hand. "I'm not some sort of fortune teller or anything, I can't predict the future," Harper said with a roll of her eyes. "You should've packed some ear-muffs with you next time just in case."
"I don't think I would've been able to exactly imagine what I would need ear-muffs for at that time," Mia murmured to herself. After letting out a sigh, Mia picked herself up from her bed and sprawled her hand out onto her desk, trying to find her phone. She thought it was a bit absurd that her roommate managed to wake up earlier than she did herself, especially since her roommate seemed like the kind of person that would sleep until one P.M. if nobody stopped her from doing so.
Mia clicked the home button to her iPhone and stared in shock as she read the time. She instantly dragged herself back to her bed and groaned as one side of her face hit the pillow. Mia decided to let herself sleep for another hour, since it was only (and regrettably) 7:38 A.M., and she was sure that she was in no rush to go anywhere.
"You're sleeping again?" Harper snorted. "Shouldn't you be up singing "You Are My Sunshine" and skipping out there to explore the campus?"
"I don't think I'm ready to sing "You Are My Sunshine" at 7 A.M.," Mia mumbled to the pillow, closing her eyes.
Mia heard Harper sit up from her bed and strolled over to her closet. Harper had finished unpacking all of her clothes from two of her boxes and started placing them in her closet yesterday night. Mia never knew a person could own so many black items, but after seeing Harper unpack her clothes and throwing them inside her closet, Mia was proved completely wrong.
"I'm going to go out to explore the campus and get some breakfast," Harper said, as she shuffled around the room trying to grab her belongings. "If you're staying in here all day, don't touch any of my stuff."
"Have fun," Mia yawned. The only words she caught were "explore" and "breakfast" from Harper's mouth. Other than those two words, Mia completely stopped listening and focused on her sleep instead.
For a few minutes, Mia was closing her eyes and constantly repeating in her mind, Sleep sleep sleep. But after one minute has gone by, and two minutes slowly started to roll past, Mia let her eyes open. She was stuck between the decision of whether she should get up, brush her teeth, grab breakfast and explore the campus like Harper was planning on doing, or should she just lay down on her bed and close her eyes until she would just fall into a deep sleep?
