Everything had been going great.
Everyone was happy. There was no real conflict. No unhappiness. So when Asuna smiled and waved Kirito goodbye after he had walked her home, she did so without hesitation.
When she got to her room, the feeling of Kirito's touch still fresh on her skin she plopped onto her bed with a grin. I am so lucky. As she thought this she noticed the light blinking on her computer; a mere notification.
She hopped on her computer chair and logged on. She had a message from an unknown user. With a puzzled expression, she clicked on the message.
From: unknown.
Subject: -----
Kirito is in trouble.
And if you want him to live, you will play my game.
Meet me at the Crystal Cove, the cave in which your friends have been visiting, tonight at midnight. Do not inform anyone of this meeting if you would like everyone to be safe.Sorry to cause you trouble.
See you soon (hopefully)-unknown
Asuna stared at the message. Her hand inched toward her phone but stopped. What if this person was speaking the truth? What if her friends were in danger?!
She stared at the time displayed on her phone. 8:13. Midnight was still 4 hours away. Her phone suddenly went off which startled her. She jumped a bit and read the text.
[Kirito]
I know I just saw you but I kinda miss you you haha
If you have trouble sleeping again...
Or if you don't...
Feel free to stop my placeLove you Asuna
Asuna stared at the words and they began to wiggle and become unclear. She wiped her eyes furiously. Crying would not solve anything. The person she loved the most was supposedly in trouble. She would go to see what the message was about and then she would tell Kirito what happened. She would ask someone for help if she needed it. She was not doing anything risky.
These were the words she used to calm herself into going to meet this unknown person at Crystal Cove.
The dark figure stood ontop of the cave. Clutching her fist she approached it and called out.A man turned around and smiled. "Ah my dear Asuna!" He addressed her like they've known each other forever. Next to the man was a woman, a sword in hand. It was obvious she was a woman even though a hood covered her head. Her dark blue hair laid outside the hood.
The man had a dark cloak that covered him as well. He was rather tall and if she dared to admit...he looked menacing.
"Are you the man who called me here?" She demanded.
"Yes yes that would be me," the man answered nonchalantly.
"Explain what that message meant," Asuna did not tolerate the man's attitude. She held her sword out towards him as a threat.
"Right to the point I see," he chuckled. "Please put that away there is no need to get violent really."
Asuna let the sword fall to her side. "What about your friend there?" She indicated the woman also clothed in black.
"Merely a precaution."
She rose her own weapon. "Then the same goes for me."
The man laughed mockingly. "Very well," he was closer but his "precaution" was standing behind. She barely moved.
"Kirito." The man stated. "The hero the Black Swordsman. The boy who will change the world of technology... Really it's sad he's fit to die. He would've been an interesting subject."
"Explain!" Asuna yelled. She was getting edgier with every word.
"My my relax miss," he said leisurely. "There's a league called Unknown Error after him because of what he's capable of. He's also known for his black clothing and sword, so this mysterious group was intrigued."
"And he's in danger? Who is this group?" She bit her tongue. She wanted to tie him up and ask all her questions. With every tense breath she worried more and had more questions and superstitions. It was hard to concentrate.
"Much like The Laughing Coffin," he smirked when she tensed up. "Yes yes you've had bad experiences with them. This group knowns Kirito online and offline and it seems that they are planning to play with him and his friends."
"Why tell me all this?"
"Because pawns are important in a a game of chess," he put his arm on her shoulder and leaned in. "Its also much more interesting this way. Watching you grow afraid and weak for Kirito who won't know his demise is close by...its very dramatic!"Aduna gritted her teeth. "So what do I do?"
"Play my game. I will leave you clues as to the things you must to do and towards the end of the game you and your friends, including Kirito will fight to outlast the final round."
"I do not wish to be your pawn," she spat.
"Do you wish for all you care for tk be dead?" He laughed. "Let's play and see if you are strong enough."
He backed away and threw a piece of paper at her. She clicked it and read the letters.
"That's the first clue."
"What the hell is this supposed to mean?" Asuna growled.
"Play the game fairly I do not tolerate cheaters." The man laughed loudly and proudly. Asuna had had enough. She kicked off the ground using her speed and agility to attack him.
Her sword made contact....but she bounced back.Landing on her back, she looked up and stared in horror. The sword had not harmed him.
"Dear me," the man said. "That isnt good now is it?" And with that he logged off.
Asuna gaped at the spot where he had been.
When she hit him, it was like hitting a wall, but it did not say "immortal object".
It had said " Error unknown".
