Dani's POV
I just woke up five minutes ago and there are already ten people standing around me. I close my eyes for a few seconds so that they will go away, but when I open them, theyre still there.
"Dani! Do you remember me? I'm your favorite brother, Daylin." The little boy says. I close my eyes again. This time it's for longer.
"Maybe we should give her a few days. Now if you can please exit the room for a moment." I hear one of the men say.
Why cant I remember anything? Why are these people around me? I open my eyes again. Finally, everyone is gone. I take a deep breath. Suddenly another person walks in.
"I dont want to sound rude, but can you please go away?" I mutter. The person looks at me for a moment before opening up her mouth.
"I'm so sorry to bother you. I'm a volunteer here and Dr. Ryan asked that I check up on you." She replies nervously. She carefully picked up a clipboard before speaking again. "I'm Rebecca. It says here that youre a coma patient. Do you remember anything?"
"I remember waking up to a bunch of people standing around me. Other than that, I'm a blank slate. Mind telling me how I have no memory or how I ended up in a coma?" I question. Rebecca starts to check my vitals to make sure that everything is working perfectly.
"The doctors might want to keep you here for a few more weeks just in case anything changes. I'll come and check up on you every day until then."
"What happens when these weeks are over with?"
"I assume that you'll go home with your family. It may be a bit overwhelming, but hopefully you'll remember who you are in a few days. I have to go see other patients. Bye, Dani." She says as she leaves the room.
Two people have already called me Dani, but it doesnt feel like it's my name. It's a nice name and all, but I dont remember anything about myself. I need to find out what happened. Why cant I remember anything but waking up in this stupid hospital bed?
A man with curly, dark hair walks in. "Hello, Ms. Adams. How are you feeling?" He asks while waving to tell another person to wait by the door. I cant tell who it is, not like I would know if I saw the person, but all I can see right now is a shadow.
"I feel fine. Can someone just tell me why I cant remember anything?"
He sighs a long sigh. "It was a small incident. You did the wrong thing at the wrong time. Luckily, these charts tell us that you'll remember who you are in no time." He looks at me as if he's holding something back. I decide not to ask what it is. "Rebecca is going to look after you for a bit, youve already met her so she's going to keep you company while we run a few more tests."
Rebecca walks in while the Doctor, I assume Dr. ryan, walks out. She sits in one of the empty chairs and takes out her phone. "I cant really think of a game to play so do you want to just ask each other questions? You may not know much about yourself but there have to be things that come to mind instantly, right?" She slowly puts her red hair behind her ears so they dont block her view. I nod.
"What are the questions?"
She starts to hum. "What do you think is your favorite color?"
I look around the room for a moment. "Green. What's yours?"
"Purple." A few questions later and I start to realize that I know more about myself than I thought I did. Rebecca sighs before putting her phone back down. "I'm not really good at talking to people I barely know. I apologize."
"It's okay. If it helps, I barely know myself as well." I smile at her. She laughs a little.
"It kinda does help." She stops to look at the clock on the wall. "Dani, I have to go. It's getting late. I'll see you tomorrow."
She smiles a bright and nervous smile before leaving the room. I officially know one person in the entire world. I'm doing good at this not remembering thing. I glance at the time to see that it's nearly midnight, then all of a sudden, I'm out.
