When the bus finally arrives to school, I wait for Dakota to get off. We have a few classes together, including homeroom. He's only seventeen, a year younger than Dani and I. When Dakota got off the bus, we started walking to the building behind the drama class. It's where all of the stoners, skaters, or future dropouts hang out at. Also known as the only place that I can catch a breath. When we get there my friend, Blake, walks up to us.
"Hey, Dylan. What's up, Dakota? Do you guys wanna smoke a blunt?" Blake asks. Dakota and I nod our heads in unison. After a few minutes a beautiful blonde starts walking towards us. "Here comes your girl."
"Hey, guys. Dylan, let's go." Juliet whispers.
"I'll see you guys in homeroom." I yell as Juliet pulls me away. She grabs my hand tightly and takes me to the auditorium. She's the singing type. She's an amazing singer, that's probably why our band has won the talent show for the past two years. I play the drums, Dakota rocks out on the guitar, and Blake is great on the bass. Juliet likes to go over the song lyrics every day so that she never forgets a single word.
"Something's wrong. What is it?" She looks at me as if she feels sorry for me.
"Dani woke up, but we cant see her until school is over and it hasnt even started yet." I explain.
"Get up. We're going to dance." She turns on the music from her phone and puts her hand out in front of me. I grab it without hesitation. It doesnt take long for us to start dancing like we're at a concert. She makes me feel so free. After a few songs the bell rings. She gives me a quick kiss and leaves the auditorium.
After school is over with I run to the bus, the mortal bus driver will leave you behind without thinking twice. The bus ride home is so much longer than the magic bus ride to school.
Dakota and I get home at 4:03pm every day. Which is around the time our parents get done with work. They work at the hospital. Dad is human and mom is a witch. Mother uses magic to heal some people, only the ones that seem like really good people. Father and her met when he caught her using magic on a little girl with cancer. He thought she was hurting her, so he ran more tests on the girl after he saw what mother was doing. When he ran the tests, he was amazed and had to know how she healed the girl that had terminal cancer. They tell us that story all of the time.
"Mom and dad are here." Dakota grumbles. "Time to talk about the perfect Dani that doesn't even know she's perfect anymore. Which makes her even more perfect."
Dakota and I have always felt like we dont belong in this family. However, Dani, she's the perfect child. She doesn't do drugs or alcohol. She does amazingly in magic and mortal school. She likes guys. She has never been intentionally mean to anyone. She's absolutely stunning with her jet black hair and glowing green eyes. Everyone is drawn to her. I guess her only flaw is that she's too perfect, but the only ones that consider that a flaw is Dakota and I.
Daylin rushes in the front door, yelling. "We get to go see Dani. We get to see my favorite sister. Will she remember me? Will she remember that I accidentally spilled juice on her dress that one time? That's the only thing I want her to forget. I want her to remember everything else."
"Daylin, she won't remember any of us or anything. It's a side effect of magic. Maybe we should all just be normal, since having witches in our family isn't helping." Dakota states calmly as he glanced at his phone. "Dylaney, I just got a text from Juliet. She needs to see you."
"No. You are not going to see her right now. You need to see your sister. Worry about your girlfriend later. Your family is more important." Mother hollers while snatching Dakota's phone. "We're leaving. Now."
We waited in the hospital waiting room for about an hour before the doctors said we could see her. Dakota decided to stay in the waiting room with me, while our parents, grandparents, and Daylin went to see her. I was lost in thought while we were in the waiting room.
What if she never remembers me? What if she never remembers the 18 years worth of birthdays we shared? Will she forget that she is a witch? I wish that I could forget that.
I quickly snapped out of it as soon as I noticed a grunge looking girl sit next to me "Hey, have you seen Dani yet?" Aly asked.
"Dylan didn't want to go back there yet. She's too nervous. Look at her. She can't even speak." Dakota exaggerates.
"I can speak. Thank you very much. I just dont want to go back there yet. It may be too overwhelming." As soon as I let that out, I noticed my family coming back. All of them seemed worried, including Daylin. Mom noticed All and gave her an undeserving look.
Daylin jumped onto my lap, he had some tears in his eyes. "She didn't remember me."
